Starling: The Fundamental Question
Art As A Way To Find Answers
Looking For Answers
You can listen to the episode where I discuss the power of The Fundamental Question Here:
This Week’s Recommenced Practices:
- Evaluate if you need to focus on “Can I?”or “How do I?” questions
- Look at works by other artists and identify what you see to be the fundamental questions behind those creations
- Go through recent examples of your works and see what answers you have to questions you may not have even known you were asking
- Write down questions you have and any answers you have already gotten (consider questions from your childhood)
- Then pick one...any question will work...and create around that question (allow the question to guide the format and medium for the work as well as the process of creation)
- Share your process/answers/work and see what questions arise once others participate with the work
Workbook: Fundamental Question Basics
In 5 steps I give you practices to figure out which questions you are working with and how you might start creating with them. You can download the PDF here.
Not Sure What To Ask?
Starling Cards
So, I have created a deck of cards that asks some of the questions tarot has always raised for me. But Instead of reading someone else image for answers, the goal would be to visualize our own. Through visualizing our own understandings to these questions we are not relying on anyone else images. And not to get too philosophical or spiritual, but this opens up communication with our higher self, or The Universe or God, or whichever word you have for that which is bigger than us but we are connected to.
These kinds of questions are meant to get you to go deeper in your development process and find more personal understandings. I am sharing three of these to get you thinking about how you could produce artwork around a question. Consider any of these 3 questions and think about how they could lead you to create art that answers them. This could be with images, song, dance or any means of expression.
These cards for art production, idea generation, daily reflection, group workshops, party games and so on. I am currently developing a workshop around this deck and will share information about that soon. If you are interested in your own deck...message me.
