Nurse's Note
Warm weather is here. Please restock your first aid kit with band-aids, hydrocortisone cream for rashes and insect bites, creams for scrapes, cuts and burns, lotion, chap-stick, insect repellant spray and sunscreen. Because we still have illness spreading with quite a bit of vomiting, strep throat, sinus and ear infections, please make sure that you have a working thermometer and are checking your child's temperature and symptoms before school.. Seasonal allergies are still very severe, as our pollen levels remain high. If you have not spoken to your doctor about allergy prevention medicine , please do so. Allergies that are not under control, make you feel chronically ill with sneezing, cough, irritated throat and eyes and a runny nose.
This is a great time to make your well child check up with your doctor to monitor your child's health and catch up on any needed vaccines. Getting to know your child when they are well, will help the doctor care for problems when they are ill. If your student will be starting 5K, they need several required immunizations. Letters went home in March and April to all that needed vaccines. These are usually given at the 4 year check up. If you are behind, this is the time to catch up. Take this time to address any concerns like chronic stomach aches or headaches. Now is also the time to get doctor orders and refills on needed medicine to be ready for summer school and the new year in August. As a new school year approaches, the pediatric doctors get very busy. Go ahead now and beat the rush. It is best to have your child's medicine ready to go on the first day of school. Remember that a doctor's order is required for any medicine to be given at school. The doctor completes the form, the parent signs and then delivers the order and the medicine to the clinic. Most of our area doctors have the forms. They can also be found on the CCSD website under the nurse section. Let us know if you need a form.
Have a safe and happy summer.
Nurse Wendy

School Attendance Matters!
The Importance of School Attendance
A student is chronically absent if he or she misses only two days of school per month (18 days per year). Even one year of chronic absence can cause a child to fall behind academically and decrease a child’s chances of graduating from high school, which can have long-term consequences on their financial independence, physical well-being and mental health.
Parents can prepare their children for a lifetime of success by making regular school attendance a priority and understanding the reasons for their child’s absences.
