3rd & 4th Grade Updates
Week of October 10
Information for this Week!
Please note, Wednesday is a half day with student dismissal at 12:00pm. Extended care is available until 6pm.
Our first Field Trip of the year is Thursday, November 3. The cost is $5 per student (chaperones are free!). Thank you to those who have already offered to chaperone. We are still in need of 5 more chaperones to be able to make this field trip a reality. If you are able to help, please let me know!
Again, I am looking for parent volunteers to help with reading in Spanish. If you are available throughout the week, please let me know. Our students can greatly benefit from one-on-one help and I would really appreciate any time you might be able to share with us.
This week's mass will be in Spanish--be sure to come join us and the wonderful 4th graders who are sponsoring mass!
Working together
Third graders reviewing body parts
Fourth graders hard at work
In Our Classes
Math - We have finished Chapter 2 on Mental Math and Estimation and now turn to Chapter 3, Multiplication and Division. All students, regardless of math group, need to be practicing their multiplication tables daily. Third graders should know their 1, 2, 5, and 10 tables by memory and should be developing more speed and accuracy in the 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 tables. Fourth graders should already know all multiplication tables 1-10. Daily practice and reinforcement is key. We appreciate your help.
Language Arts - Both grades have begun their new stories. Fourth grade is reading ¿Qué hacen los ilustradores? and third grade is reading Roberto Clemente: orgullo de los Piratas de Pittsburgh. Fourth grade has a spelling test this Friday and third grade has theirs next Friday. In grammar, we are working on verb tenses. This will require extra practice at home so please be sure your child is completing their homework!
Science - Over the next few weeks, we will be taking a short break from our study of Soils, Rocks and Landforms to focus on the human body. We will be reviewing body parts and learning about the different body systems. There will be some exciting projects coming home as well. We need 2L bottles (empty) so if you have any, please clean them and send them in with your child. We will need 44 in total.
Social Studies - We continue to work on geography, learning about landforms, states and capitals. Each week, third grade will have a short quiz on 10 states and their capitals. Students will have a completed map each week with those 10 states to study. Fourth grade will continue to look at latitude and longitude as well as start reading about Ferdinand Magellan.
Have a wonderful week!
