Parents and students should be connected with ClassDojo at this point. We are using this program to monitor behavior issues and academic concerns in the classroom. Please let your child's homeroom teacher know if you need a reissued code to sign up. Our second monthly reward will be Friday, December 18th during REACH time for those who qualify based on the percent of positive points earned through this month.

Social Studies Updates

We are currently finishing up a short unit on Westward Expansion & Manifest Destiny. There will be a common assessment Friday, December 11 on the material covered.

Next week, we will have a short study of slavery prior to the Civil War so that when we return from winter break we are prepared to dive into Sectionalism and the events that led to the Civil War.

BY FRIDAY, JANUARY 8, ALL STUDENTS WILL NEED AN EMPTY CEREAL BOX FOR AN UPCOMING PROJECT ON THE CIVIL WAR. ANY EXTRA BOXES ARE WELCOME FOR THOSE WHO DON'T HAVE ONE AT HOME.

Science Updates

McDaniel

There have been several students who have been absent recently and are missing work. All of my powerschool grades are up to date. Please make sure your student has all his/her work turned in. Our agenda is posted each week on the website (sciencerocksthe8th.weebly.com) We are currently under the molecular biology tab . This will help you distinguish which tasks are completed and which tasks have been missed. This week we are focusing on diseases and human health concentrating on the digestive and respiratory systems. If you have any questions on work to be made up please feel free to call or email me. I will be sending home the benchmark test comparison from test 1 to test 2 so you will be able to see the improvement or digression of your child. Each student will need for their parent/guardian to sign the graph. Please feel free to to contact me with any questions.

Math Updates

ELA Updates

ELA classes are completing EOG practice reading warm ups and working on a Holiday-themed packet which requires them to use most of the skills we have learned so far this year. Students will complete a 10 question assessment after the packet so the ELA teachers can examine what skills need to be retaught. Students are also completing Word Wall vocabulary activities every week.
