Principal Message
Dear Orchard Families,
We are delighted to have our 2nd annual Halloween Parade! The parade will begin at 9:15 and will be held out on our track. Students will be coming outside to walk the track two times and then head back inside. Please have your student wear their costume to school. Students will not have time to change at school. Also, if you do not have a costume we have some extra ones for your student.
Your student's teacher will communicate about classroom parties. Hopefully the weather will be beautiful and the parade will be fabulous. If it is raining, snowing, blowing, lightening, etc. we will move the parade inside. If we have to do an inside parade it will be for students only. Think warm weather.
Here are the guidelines for Halloween Costumes:
If students want to come to school in costume to celebrate Halloween, costumes must meet the following guidelines:
Be Respectful: Avoid stereotypes. Be racially sensitive and culturally appropriate. Students may not dress up as an ethnic or cultural group (i.e., a Mexican, a Geisha, a Native American, etc). Skin color must not be altered in any way.
Be Responsible: Recognize that students in a wide age range will see the costumes. Costumes should be family friendly. Masks may not be worn. Costumes may not be gory or threatening. No make-up is allowed.
On the day of the celebration, the teacher must know what costume each student is wearing. Before the parade the teacher will check to make sure each student's costume is appropriate.
Be safe: No hand-held accessories, real or pretend (i.e., wands or weapons) are allowed. Crowns or hats may be worn.
Be Kind: Costumes should be fun and exciting, not political, or offensive.
Be Understanding: Students may dress up as fictional characters if they follow the above guidelines.
Note: Every year in the State Title VI/Indian Education meeting, it is discussed that dressing up as Pocahontas or other Native American Leaders is inappropriate. Culture is not a costume. In respect to the Native American view, please advise students to refrain from dressing up as Native Americans (i.e., Pocahontas, Sacagawea, Sitting Bull, etc.).
I will review these expectations with each class. If you have questions please reach out to me.
Sincerely,
Heidi Short

How to Create a myDSD Account
Welcome to the new myDSD system. We have made several changes and enhancements to make your experience better. The system has a cleaner, more modern mobile friendly look and feel enabling you to use your smart phone or other mobile type devices. It is accessible in both English and Spanish at the click of a button and works with the same username and password you used to access the old myDSD system. In addition to the many features in the previous version, the new myDSD system allows parents/guardians to apply for free reduced lunch, boundary variances and the ability to clear their students’ absences. It also provides for easier communication with the support team.
