Shout out to Alta Vista’s Girls on the Run Silicon Valley team for their efforts to raise awareness about the impact litter and trash make on the community. For this year’s’ Community Impact Project, the girls chose the school and sea life as the groups they wanted to help. Yesterday, 22 girls worked together to pick up trash on our school campus (and there was a lot) and make posters to hang up around campus. We hope you take time to read their helpful tips and help keep our community streets, parks and neighborhoods clean. It supports ocean health by reducing trash in storm drains that flows into our rivers and oceans.

Mark your calendars for May 24th. We are combining Open House and STEAM Night into one celebration of learning. Classrooms will be open from 6:00 to 6:45. Beginning at 6:45, a variety of STEAM activities will be available around the campus for an hour. We hope you'll be able to join us for this special event.

We have been seeing an increase in the number of lunches, water bottles, and homework being dropped off in the office after school has started. Unfortunately, this created unnecessary disruptions to the classroom as we contact the teacher and students leave class to retrieve the items. While we understand there are sometimes emergencies, we would like to encourage you to set up morning routines that include a checklist of items needed for school, such as homework, lunches and water bottles. A white board near the front door is a great place to "check out" as you are leaving the house in the morning. It's also helpful to add unexpected items as a reminder for special events. Thank you for helping us with this during the final weeks of school.

I have 2 children from Union Middle School and 2 grandchildren that will be going to Carlton. Check out the picture of Mrs. Malave's daughter and two grandchildren.

Please join AVHSC's Dad's Club and our community for a night of Bocce Ball and food. You can register as a team or an individual or come for the food and socialize. Kids are welcome.
