A Note from Dr. Burdett
The comic by Scott Nickel spotlights another pitfall of social media-be careful of what you are seeking. The supposed need for likes, retweets, going viral, or other passions for self-exultations puts the spotlight on things that we do not have rather than focusing on what we do have. As a result, this leads to an empty feeling when we do not get enough "electronic" attention or, in the case of the turkey, it may lead to being "stuffed" with too much attention.
In this season of thankfulness, it brings great joy to spotlight the amazing students we have at Prosper High School. We are extremely blessed with so many talented students but most of all, we are blessed with such wonderful young people who reflect strong core values such as "the Golden Rule," empathy, and kindness. Our Hope Squad, our Student Council, and the rest of our student body continue to reveal the greatness at PHS by their words and actions toward others. I have said it before, and I will say it again, this starts in your home. We have wonderful parents, guardians, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and others who put in great amounts of work to provide guidance and discipline for our kids. To all of you reading this, your efforts are bearing great fruit and I send a deep level of gratitude from all of us at PHS.
Congratulations to Senior Jonah Leonard (photo below) for winning the Snare Drum Soloist category at the Lone Star Percussion Contest this past weekend. In the last 12 months, Jonah has won the Marimba Solo Category at the North Texas Percussion Festival, the Region 24 Jazz Band Drumset Audition (he is competing for the State UIL Jazz Drumset chair) and this most recent contest in the snare drum category. In addition to Jonah's success last weekend, our Junior Varsity Drumline was top 5 in the Novice Division and our Varsity was top 10 in the Advanced Division.
Congratulations to our Eagle Nation News (ENN) on their success at the Texas Emmy Awards last night (photos below). Congratulations to Gianna Ortner-Findaly for her published article Are Your Priorities Straight? in the Best of SNO website. Gianna also just finished performing in our outstanding performance of Mama Mia. Finally, congratulations to our Debate Team for their success at UNT last weekend.
Please look at the calendar and see what you can attend. Our students would love to see you supporting them and noticing how our inputs are affecting our outcomes.

Counseling in the News
Prosper ISD was featured in the Dallas Morning News for its' inaugural suicide prevention program. Members of what is known as the Hope Squad are talking candidly about mental health and suicide, seeking out lonely and troubled students, and making referrals to school counselors.
These are the words your teen applying to college needs to hear from you
Yes, we know they act like they don't care what you think. Trust us, they care so much. The Today Show examines a critical parenting moment.
Ready or not? What can you do when your teen isn’t prepared for college? Jennifer Folsom shares her journey and struggles with her 17-year-old twins. She has realized, " I haven’t failed them if they enroll in a community college or a trade school. This is about the next, right step for my older two sons..."
Anxiety is, indeed, a serious disorder. As such, believing in common misconceptions can become threatening to the health of those struggling with the illness. Youth Health blog looks at these myths and attempts to validate or debunk their validity.
