Building and Connecting Everyday
As we focus our school year on "Building and Connecting", we want every student to be involved and noticed at HEMMS. We are continuing to deploy many activities and programing. Some of them are: Anime Club, afterschool tutoring, Connections Time (Advisory), athletics and many others.
The H.E. McCracken Middle School mission is to build on the academic foundation of diverse
learners and establish high expectations for contributing, independent, and collaborative members of an ever increasing technologically driven society.
Our Vision is to promote:
high expectations for all learners
critical thinking skills
authentic, real world applications
the strength of our diversity
HEMMS awarded the No Place for Hate
Parents are directed to take a look at all building and district updates on the website.
Our state testing is coming up. Testing will include and the South Carolina READY/PASS assessments, and the Algebra I EOC. We are required by state and federal laws to administer the tests to all students.
H.E. McCracken will be holding testing on the following dates and times.
May 18th – 8:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m. SC READY Math (Grades 6-8)
May 19th - 8:45 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Science (Grade 6 Only)
May 19th - 8:45 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Algebra I EOC (Algebra I Students Only)
Please see the link below for the State Department of Education’s Student and Parent Resources Page. Items such as brochures, sample items, sample score reports, translations and more can be found at this website.
It is imperative that students arrive to school on time. If they arrive late, they will not be able to enter the testing session and will have to participate in make-up testing. Please try not to schedule doctor’s appointments or out of school functions on testing days. If a student does not finish their test in the allotted time, they are moved to the media center to finish their test. Once a student has started testing, they must finish their test on the same day.
During testing, students may not be in possession of any electronic devices that can be used for communicating, recording, timing, creating images, or storing images with the exception of necessary medical devices. Please stress the importance of this to your child. Students may leave their devices at home or they will be instructed to turn off their electronic devices and stored in their bookbag at the front of the room.
Please reach out to Mrs. Ryman, testing coordinator, with any questions at Cassandra.firstname.lastname@example.org.

Parent Climate Survey
Hello Parents and Guardians,
Please take the opportunity to complete the Parent Climate survey through the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE).
K-12 parents can take the survey up until May 27th in Ecollect in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Parents may submit one survey for each student, according to SCDE guidelines. Each survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete. Please read each statement and choose the best response from the choices given. As you read each statement, please consider the entire year rather than recent or isolated events.
Your feedback will help to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and define opportunities to improve parental involvement at your school and in the state. The results will be included in the school’s annual report card and will be used to inform decision-making on the school, district, and state levels. Your answers will be anonymous and confidential. School administrators will receive only a summary of the answers.
Thank you for taking time to give us your feedback. Working together helps to ensure that we have better schools and brighter futures for every student. A strong partnership with families is instrumental in making our education system successful.
