Please click on the link above to order your school theme t-shirt and support our mission to send "A Children's Garden of Bible Stories" to kids in Papua New Guinea!

As of Wednesday August 30th we have a total of $337.66 (67 books) which includes all the chapel offering money as well as the $2 for every shirt ordered. Thanks to all who have already contributed. I'd really like to see us reach the 200 book goal.

School Website

The school website continues to be a work in progress. Some of the things normally found in Renweb can now also be found on the school website. I'm not trying to diminish the use of Renweb, rather put some of the most used/needed item there for quicker access. The school calendar is one and health forms and info is the other. So, if you haven't been yet or it's been a while, check and see what's new available for you.

Varsity Girls Volleyball Win Decatur Tournament

The varsity girls volleyball team played in the St Joe Decatur Barney Schultz Classic tournament last weekend and walked away the tournament champs! Congrats girls!! GO TIGERS!!!

PTL Ice Cream Social

The PTL Ice Cream Social on September 7th at 6:30 in the Soest Family Life Center is a dual purpose event. First, and most important to the kids is that ice cream is served. Second, it serves as the opening meeting for the PTL. A report of events to be held this year, a review of financials and opportunities to volunteer are the other part of the evening. Please plan on attending not only for the ice cream but the meeting portion as well. There will also be prize drawings etc at some point in the evening. Your participation and volunteering makes all of the PTL events a success AND fun for the kids.

Reformation Event

Saturday Sept 9th from 3pm to ? is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. There will be festivities in Hoagland at the Pavillion and surrounding area. The school has two tables at the Reformation Walk taking place after the service. We are still looking for volunteers to man those tables for an hour. Minor setup help that morning would also be appreciated.

One of the big supplies we need are 2 tailgate tents/covers, one for each station along with some walls for them. If you can help in any area, contact Axel Gruen at the school 260-639-0123.

Tiger Unity Walk

The annual SJE Tiger Unity Walk is coming Friday September 22nd! For those that are new, this is a PTL sponsored event and the money raised goes toward classroom enrichment. Here is the Unity Walk schedule:

  • 9:00am to 10:00am 4th through 8th grades walks in two heats of 30 min each
  • 10:05 is the whole school photo
  • 10:15am to 11:00am K-3rd walks in two heats of 20 min each
  • 11:00am lunch
  • 11:45 Soest kids bussed back

It should, as always, be a great day. Hopefully weather will cooperate too!

SJE Preparing for Re-Accreditation

SJE's current NLSA accreditation expires on August 31, 2018. We are in the process of, and have just applied for re-accreditation. We have assembled a steering committee which will oversee and direct the work of accreditation. It takes others work as well. SJE parents, congregation and school board members as well as school staff are all involved in the process. Shortly we will be looking for a few more to round out sub committee work.

The goal is to have the accreditation work and papers complete by March of 2018 and schedule the visiting team to come in April so our accreditation will be renewed in June.

In the meantime this is a great time to see and acknowledge the good work of the school as well as what may yet need some work. This not only includes the academic work of the school and its staff but also includes looking at our campus facilities to see what may need to be done. Please consider serving when asked to help by one of our steering committee members. It is short term vitally important work.

SGO Donations

This year our SGO donations are off to a great start! The school's need this year is about $19,000, of which we already have over $11,000. We have over 30 students who benefit from this scholarship annually.

If you do not know what an SGO is, it is a scholarship fund solely dependent on individuals, businesses and farmers who donate to the fund and direct it to the school(s) of their choice. Donors receive a 50% Indiana state income tax credit and if the donation is larger than your tax in a given year, you can roll it over for up to 9 years. This year the tax credits were increased from $9 million to $12.5 million. Last year the money was gone before the end of the calendar year and considering the pace it started at this year, it is likely to be gone even sooner.

There are so many way to give. Make sure you take advantage of your opportunity to receive not only a tax credit but a great feeling that your gift helps students continue to receive a Christian education.

Please tell others about this great opportunity and consider giving yourself. Go to www.lutheransgo,org to find out more and donate to SJE.

SJE Endowment

The SJE endowment fund has been around for some time. It is finally at a point that the school can begin using it. That means more now than ever before. contributions made to this fund, make a difference. Also, at the beginning of this school year, the Lutheran Foundation ties grant funds the school receives to donations made to our endowment. In other words, every dollar donated to the SJE endowment is, one, matched into our endowment and, second is a dollar available for the school via the day school grant. In the past that amount has averaged $23,000 each school year. The funds were used for technology upgrades as well as any other classroom or school needs.

This grant, and the endowment fund have become very valuable to the school. So, please consider giving to our endowment fund so that the school has money to apply for to be used in an upcoming school year and long term from our endowment fund. If you have any questions about the endowment, please contact Axel Gruen in the school office at 260-639-0123 or email to
