Updates for the Week
Here are some updates for the week of March 15-19, 2021.
On Monday, we will host pre-k screening in the media center for next year’s pre-k students. We are also currently accepting enrollments for next year’s kindergarten class. Students who will be five on or before August 30, 2021 are eligible. Please see our “Hello Kindergarten” page on our website for more details. https://www.smore.com/csa5t
As a reminder, Monday, Friday, March 19 is a remote learning day. for students. All students will learn from home, and attendance will be taken based on completing work and participation. It is a teacher workday. Friday’s remote learning day will be focused on severe weather awareness and will include STEM activities for your students to do at home. We will send home materials for activities on Thursday, and you can find directions and activities on ClassDojo, SeeSaw, and Google Classroom Friday morning.
We’d also like to remind you that Monday, March 22 is now a regular student day.
Thanks for your efforts to make our carline safer. We didn’t have any passing in carline last week, and that is a huge improvement. We also want to remind students that they have until March 31st to complete the 25-day reading challenge.
We are still taking orders for our 2021 yearbook. The cost is $25, and we will only order yearbooks for those who order in advance. You can order a yearbook by returning the envelope and payment to school OR by ordering directly online from our website. The deadline is March 31. If you need another form or need help ordering, please contact Mrs. St. John. https://wes.wilkescountyschools.org/apps/news/article/1348791

About Attendance
Parents, please note that since we have moved to Plan A, students who are participating in Plan A will be marked PRESENT or ABSENT. If your child is not in school, you will need to send in absence notes as usual and it will be coded as excused or unexcused. If your child is officially quarantined or excluded by the health department and/or the school nurse, your teacher will offer remote learning. If your child participates and submits work each day, the student will be marked PRESENT OFF SITE (1R). If not, the quarantine absences would be excused. If your child needs to be out, we will work with you to make sure your child doesn't get behind.
For students who continue with remote learning note that in order for us to count your child in attendance off site, we must on a daily basis verify that the student is engaged (completing and submitting assignments), on pace (participating in the virtual classroom), or receiving academic/emotional support (directly from the teacher). If this isn't happening, your child will be counted absent. Please make sure that your child is submitting work and that you are communicating with the teacher daily. Thanks in advance for your help!
