SPIRIT WEEK and COIN DRIVE
Let's see which class has the most school spirit!!!
This is a week-long event starting October 16th, where each floor (UPSTAIRS vs. DOWNSTAIRS) competes against each other by participating in Spirit Days and the Coin Drive to obtain points.
Each floor will have its own "bank" for the Coin Drive. The floor with the most overall points will be awarded "Most School Spirit" and will win a prize!

Fun and games for all grades. Let's get up to some good trouble with mischief games like TP mummies, pumpkin chucking, and more. Visit our walk-through Halloween 'houses'. One will be cute and fun, one will be full of ghosts and skeletons. Registration is due by October 16th. $5 per child, siblings welcome but must be registered. Cash/Check made payable to GSHSA can be sent to school with children's names, including siblings, in an envelope marked "Fall Fest."
You may register online at gshsa.org, select the Fall Fest flyer from the forms tab to register, and pay via PayPal. This event is going to take a lot of work to put together. Please if you enjoy Halloween, consider helping out our Home & School Association with this event. This year, we'd also like to invite our school community's veterans to the assembly to be recognized! If any veterans plan to attend, please indicate that on the form as an RSVP. We look forward to seeing you there!
Disabilitiy Awareness Month: October 15th - November 15th
Disability Awareness Month from October 15th to November 15th. During this time, we highlight the various disability categories to deepen our knowledge and understanding of the students with whom we work. The resources will provide general information, effective strategies, lesson ideas and recommended children's books of less obvious disabilities which include:
- Learning Disabilities
- ADHD/ADD
- Emotional Disturbance
- Speech and Language
- Executive Functioning
Before you check out the resources, here are Four Interesting Facts About the Less Obvious Disabilities...
Did you know:
1. Some researchers believe that executive functioning skills play a more important role in student success than IQ.
2. People with ADHD do not have trouble paying attention- they struggle to pay attention to the RIGHT thing.
3. Over three million Americans stutter. Stuttering affects four times as many males as females. Some research has found a higher percentage of people in the genius range who stutter compared to the general population.
4. Learning disabilities is a complicated condition that includes a group of disorders such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and dyspraxia.
October Dine & Donate
Join us on Wednesday October 25th at Capriotti's! Be sure to mention Gwynedd Square Elementary School; 10% of your order will be donated back to the Gwynedd Square Home and School. See flier for details!
Home & School Directory
Don't miss out on being in this year's Home & School Directory! Please complete the Google Form by Tuesday, Oct 10th if you did not already fill it out or turn in the yellow paper copy.
Families use the school directory to reach out to each other to arrange playdates, send birthday invitations, etc., and Classroom Parents use the contact information to send out information about Classroom Parties. The school cannot provide your contact information to Home & School.
Please fill out the form even if you do not want your information published. There are varying options for keeping your information private. Thank you!
