Please print all grade verification reports from Power School rather than Canvas. When entering grades into Powerschool, grades K-2 will use F1, but dot not mark complete. Grades 3-5 will use Q1 and will mark complete. Please see me if you have questions, I'm happy to assist in any way. Please assist new teachers on your grade level as this is their first grading period using this system.

    Darkness to Light training

All staff must complete the Darkness to Light training video by Wednesday, October 19. This is a District expectation. If you have not started, you have to register first before watching the video. It is very powerful and will open your eyes to a world that some of our students may be living in.

    New Immersion School

The District Personnel and Contractors working to design the new Immersion School at Sullivan Middle want your input as to every aspect of the building. They have developed a schedule for different grade levels and other departments. Please refer to the schedule below if you would like to attend.

Brian Vaughan and I talked and he asked me to send out this information to you. The district would like our teachers’ input on design plans for the new immersion school that will be built at Sullivan. They would like to meet with as many people as possible from the following areas (below) on Monday, October 17 at the assigned times below. Teachers and staff will see building plans and provided needed feedback. Meetings will be held in the Media Center at Richmond Drive. Please send this to respective groups as soon as possible so they can plan to attend. (Mrs. Mobley gave immersion teachers a heads up about this at their last meeting.)

Please continue to be watchful on the playground. We are still seeing several students a day in the nurse's station for kids running into each other. Review the PBIS Staff Matrix for teacher expectations on the playground.

    Construction Update

    PBIS Update

You will notice new signs going up in different locations throughout the school, and you may have already seen the two new banners hanging in the hallways. The signs will be the the matrix specific to that area only. Please reference these signs with your students as inappropriate behaviors occur. Continue having morning talks about defiance and disrespect as this continues to be our #1 disciple issue according to the data. Thank you for all you do and all your hard work. We are making a difference.

    Science Update

Please make sure you refer to the email I forwarded to you from Kim Massy. It contains a great deal of information with several important attachments. The information will be of tremendous value heading in to the second nine weeks.

SC READY Individual Score Reports (ISR)

The ISR's the State Department sent had a misspelled word in it. They are reprinting them and sending us the correct version. Thank you, Mrs. Brown, for separating them. As for the ISR's I have now, we have the option of what to do with them. There are 2 copies for each student. One copy will go to the 4th and 5th grade teachers to help guide instruction. The other set will go to 3rd and 4th grade teachers so you can see how your students performed last year. I would rather gain value out of them rather than destroy them. I will be distributing these during next week's grade level meetings on Wednesday.

    Science Update from Kim Massey

The Light & Sound Waves kit that was ordered through adoption should be used for the 4th grade Light and Sound unit during 4th nine weeks.
Another new kit through adoption is Push, Pull & Go. It is a 2nd grade kit and will be used 2nd nine weeks.
Please advise teachers of grades 3-5 that the benchmark window will close on Oct. 14. They should be finished teaching the unit and students should complete the assessment by the end of the school day on Oct. 14. Please remind teachers that the benchmark is a formative assessment. It is cumulative, but not intended to be used as a gradebook score. They should use the benchmark data to help them decide on the next steps for science instruction.
The 3rd and 4th grade Spanish and French benchmarks in Canvas in the same course as the English benchmark. (Yes, 4th grade is there now!) The Spanish and French are there as PDF files to be completed on a Scantron.
On Monday, Oct. 24 at 2:45pm, a conference call through the RHSD 4th grade Master Course will be held. The title of the conference is What 4th grade teachers need to know about SCPASS-Science.
On Thursday, Oct. 27 at 2:45pm, a conference call through the RHSD 5th grade Master Course will be held. The title of the conference is What 5th grade teachers need to know about SCPASS-Science.
