All fourth grade classes will be held from 11:00 to 1:00. All fifth grade classes will be held from 1:15 to 3:15. We will be rotating to 8 different stations. Each station will last about 15 minutes.
Please have your child dress appropriately. They should dress for the weather, wear sunscreen and by all means wear socks and sneakers! Water bottles are also welcome.
I welcome and encourage you to come and watch or volunteer to help run a station. We are looking forward to a day of fun! If you have any questions please call Carla Masters at 817-4704, ext. 4889. Thank you for your cooperation!
Mileage Club
Spring is here and so is Mileage Club! Physical activity is imporatant for all children. After Spring break I will be starting a walking/running program called the Feelin' Good Mileage Club.
The Feelin' Good Mileage Club provides opportunity for all children at NWEL to walk or run for fitness. The Mileage Club will be held during their recess time, Monday through Friday from Thursday, April 11 to Thursday, May 23. The walking course is entirely on school grounds.
Your child needs no special equipment or shoes to participate. Each child is free to walk/run as little or as much as they choose in their designated time. Prizes are awarded for finished mileage cards.
I know your child will enjoy the Feelin'Good Mileage Club. If you have any questions feel free to call Mrs. Masters at 817-4704, ext. 4889. Let's get walking!
Northwest FIRST Lego League Team
The team is being lead by Mr. Smith and Miss. Rivera. They have been meeting twice a week and have their first rookie competition on May, 18th in Kalamazoo.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Drop-Off
Pick-Up
If you will be picking your child up, please make sure to send a note to the teacher, or call the office. If calling the office, please do so before 3:00 p.m. This will allow us to get lists finalized and given to the teacher. If you call after this time, your request unfortunately will not be honored. We will not pull children off the bus for late calls. You will need to meet them at the bus stop. When picking up your child please park in a designated parking spot and not along the drop-off curb. Make sure to bring a photo ID. Parents are asked to wait in the cafeteria until students are dismissed. Students will be dismissed by grade starting at 3:32 p.m on full days, and 2:27 p.m. on Early Release days. When exiting the parking lot please do not turn around in the Lansing Avenue Baptist Church parking lot.
Parking Lot
Thank you for your continued patience with the volume of traffic during our drop-off and pick-up times! You are doing a fantastic job of parking in parking spaces, driving slowly in the parking lot and being timely in your efforts. Please remember when dropping off a student to only drop them off when you have reached the sidewalk.
Morning Tardiness
We encourage promptness since tardies affect everyone and disrupt classroom time. One of the most valuable life skills a student can learn from his/her parent/guardian is the responsibility of arriving at school every day on time. Morning is the time when important school news is announced, teachers define the plans for the day, and instructional goals are reviewed and set. The whole tone of a child’s school day is set in the first part of the day.
Main doors open at 8:15 a.m.
School starts at 8:25 a.m.
Students not in their classroom seat by 8:35 a.m. shall be considered tardy.
If the supervisory aides are not present when you drop off your student, they are tardy. Please make sure to come in the office and sign them in.
Students who arrive after 9:00 a.m. will be marked as a morning absence.
Doctor appointments/professional appointments are excused with a doctors note.
Students must be in school at least half of the day, to count as a full day.
Please help support your child in learning habits that will help them be successful at school and throughout life. If you need help or have concerns getting your child to school on time please contact the office. We are here to help.
Medicine Procedures
- Do not send any medication on the school bus. Medication could easily be taken by the wrong child when it is not monitored by an adult. It is the parent's responsibility to bring medication into the Northwest Elementary office and check it in with a secretary.
- Over-the-counter medications (cough drops, Tylenol, Tums) must have a doctors order.
- No staff member will be permitted to dispense non-prescribed, over-the-counter (OTC) medication to any student with out a medication form filled out by a prescribing physician.
