Butterfly School News for NOVEMBER 2017!!
"Our Father, fill our hearts, we pray, with gratitude Thanksgiving Day; For food and raiment Thou dost give, that we in comfort here may live." — Luther Cross
It is important to be mindful of the many blessings we receive all year. November brings a special time of remembrance for many families. Memories of special family members who have passed on live close to our hearts. May this season be a special time for you and your family.
Occasionally parents ask about special ways to recognize and thank their child’s teacher for their hard work. Examples might be a special occasion such as their birthday or Christmas. To make your special recognition choice a little easier, each of our staff members has filled out a ‘faculty favorites’ sheet. It is a handy resource around birthdays and holiday time! If you’d like to make sure your special gift is exactly the right fit, stop by the red shelf just outside my office. You will see the white FACULTY FAVORITES notebook. Snap a quick photo of your child's teacher's favorite things!
We are so blessed!

New Faces?!!
Butterfly School will soon be welcoming some new faces to our building! We are excited to announce a small specialized school for hearing challenged young children, The Hearing School of North Texas (formally the Hearing School of the Southwest) will be joining us here at Riverside. They will be occupying two of our unused classrooms. The Hearing School of North Texas is an auditory verbal preschool where hearing impaired young children with cochlear implants and / or hearing aids are taught to develop their listening skills and develop speech as their primary means of communication. There are only three of these types of schools in all of Texas. Students travel from all parts of the metroplex to attend the school here in Coppell. Luella Funderburg is the director of the school. Lee Bransford is the certified teacher. We are delighted to have them here with us! Introduce yourself when you see them. WELCOME!

Pony Tail Club
Illness often takes its toll in many ways. Sometimes simple things like a healthy appearance can make all the difference in healing. Pink Heart Funds provides much needed support for cancer patients by providing high quality wigs for those experiencing hair loss during chemotherapy.
For ten years, I was the Mockingbird Elementary School Pony Tail Club sponsor. It was such a moving experience to witness such a beautiful gift given by so many children and parents. Anyone who has personally dealt with a cancer diagnosis or gone through it with family or a friend, knows what a helpless feeling it is and often asks, “What can I do to help?” The answer is simple; it does not cost anything, and it makes a huge difference in the life of a cancer patient. If you have long hair and would like to give an amazing gift that makes a difference, you can donate a 12-inch pony tail!
Here are the guidelines:
1. The ponytail must be at least 12 inches long
2. The ponytail needs to all be one length or LONG separate layers
3. The ponytail needs to be clean and dry
4. The ponytail needs to be SECURED IN A PONYTAIL band or braid
5. The ponytail needs to be placed in a zip lock baggie for delivery
6. The ponytail may be colored or permed
7. Grey hair is absolutely acceptable to donate
8. Your hair can be sectioned in 2 or 3 ponytails, if that is how your hair stylist wants to cut it.
Ponytail Kids Club was specifically founded by pink Heart Funds as a way to help children with hair loss during chemotherapy. Children are able to receive a wig, free of charge, if their family does not have the means to purchase one. JoAn Nicely is the founder. You can find out more at the web site www.Pinkheartfunds.com. Pink Heart Funds is not associated with a similar organization; ‘ Locks of Love’Website: www.Pinkheartfunds.org
