QVE Serves the Community and Sharpens the Saw!

On Saturday, QVE Girls ROCK and RUN Club, GEMS, Gents, staff, and families came out to support mental illness by participating in the 5K walk/run to overcome mental illness. The NAMI|Fort Bend is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, our nation's largest grass-roots, mental health organization dedicated to making lives better. The purpose of WALK RUN TO OVERCOME was 1.) to provide an awareness of brain disorders 2.) to stop the stigma 3.) and bring hope to the disabled by initiating a fund for a Clubhouse Model where recovery is a real possibility.

Our partnership will help transform the community's perception of mental illness from a stigmatizing environment to a compassionate place where every person's identity is valued. Publicly addressing brain disorders associated with changes in the brain's structure, chemistry, and function will provide information for understanding. Early detection and treatment are the first steps toward recovery. Tragically, however, not recognizing the signs of a mental illness or experiencing symptoms of depression, bipolar, OCD, or schizophrenia causes people to not ask for help, fearing judgment, discrimination or isolation.

When students can get involved in give back to the community it can have lasting benefits as it gives them great satisfaction and pride that comes from changing the lives of others. As we prepare our students to be successful in the 21st century, service to others will be an important part of helping them discover their true gifts and talents by focusing on how they can help save the world.

Thanks to all who came out to support this important event and a special thanks to Ms. Blevins and Mr. Strutton for organizing this for us!

FYI: Jeans tomorrow with your RACE Shirt!!
