Five Hawks Parent Newsletter
March 2023
Hello Five Hawks Families~
February was filled with reading and kindness events! Many thanks to all the volunteers that helped bring the special events forward! The best part of 2022-23 has been the return of volunteers, both in the building and during special events. Learning is a big job that is best approached as a village and I believe Five Hawks has the best village around! Many thanks for your strong support and partnership.
The PTC and D.O.G.S will be having a joint meeting March 7th at 6:30 in the media center. The main topic of discussion will be planning our Family Fun Night in May! If you are interested in helping with the event, this meeting is for you!
We are also looking for a new PTC President or two co-presidents! The 2023-2024 school year will be a transition time. This time will be spent learning the role that the PTC plays for the school, the timelines and details for all our fundraising and to answer any and all questions. Being a part of the PTC is wonderful opportunity to get to know staff, students and families better. Without the PTC, the school would not get any extra funding. If you are interested in this position, please contact Darci Smith at darcismith@ymail.com.
Save the date! Saturday, March 25th 8:00am – 11:00am is our 1st annual DOGS Pancake Breakfast & Silent Auction! We will have pancakes, sausage, orange juice, coffee, tons of silent auction items and a bounce house! More details to come!

Summer Academy
Who can enroll in Summer Academy: LitCamp?
Students entering grades 1-5 who meet criteria and have been recommended by their classroom teacher. Teacher recommendation is a valuable part of the identification process for Summer Academy programs. Teachers help identify possible candidates and provide the essential information needed to plan for your child’s learning. If your child has been invited to participate, you should have received a flyer at conferences.
What will the learning look like for my child?
The Summer Academy Program: LitCamp experience is designed to keep students engaged in learning during the summer. Through powerful literacy-based lessons, camp routines, and quality texts, “campers” will grow as readers, writers, and learners.
What is the commitment?
Funding for this program is based on attendance. We need a commitment that your child will attend and fully participate each day. Bus transportation will be provided.
Any registrations received after the enrollment deadline of May 5th will be placed on a waiting list.
