Welcome to 2023!

REFLECTIONS FROM PRINCIPAL LISA HAYES-TAYLOR

Welcome to 2023! Ringing in the new year brings a new attendance challenge: “It’s a New Year! Let’s Be Here!”. A crucial part of success for students is attendance. Media Center/Readers are Leaders

Literacy Week

Reader Are Leaders has a challenge designed for Literacy Week, Florida! The challenge runs all of January, and we will have school-wide celebration the week of January 23rd – 27th.

This year’s theme is “Take a Deep Dive into Literacy. Splash into New Worlds”. Your student will have a grade level specific challenge. When they complete the challenge they will earn a Brag Tag for their Readers are Leaders lanyards. Remember, students who earn 60 or more Brag Tags will earn a medal, you may remember seeing that in a recent Newsletter. You will be hearing more about Literacy Week over the next few days.

I am excited to inform you that PKS plans to launch a student newspaper! I am using the term newspaper loosely to begin with!!! I want the students to view this as a fun, enjoyable, and collaborative team effort, not a stressful grind. I plan to let students know early next week and have the inaugural edition in a month. Please encourage your student to take part, if that is their “cup of tea”. I hope students K – 8 contribute! Not just writing, we can have cartoons, event notifications, entertainment links – the sky is the limit! I want it to be a student-run activity. I am lucky enough to have a parent agree to be Editor-in-Chief (I haven’t asked him yet, so I will announce that next weekJ).

Thank you, Dr. Cash
