Coherent Instructional System...

With the simple use of a ball and mimicking the game "Hot Potato", Coach Searcy encouraged students to be engaged in a review session shortly before an assessment. Utilizing appropriate music that the students love listening to in their leisure time, the ball was passed around the circle. The student with the ball, once the music stopped, was required to answer the review question presented on the Google Form. This strategy allowed students to practice and use the language of the standards, along with helping Coach Searcy check for understanding and start

planning remediation or enrichment after the assessment.

After the review session, students were given a chance to ask last minute questions. Before beginning the assessment, one of the students stated, "Let's do this, Coach Searcy!"

Family and Community Engagement...

Mrs. Twomey, on behalf of Smokey Road Middle School, accepts a generous donation of school supplies from Bank of America's Sandy Israel.

Professional Capacity...

During the summer month of June, Smokey Road's School Improvement Team underwent Depth-of-Knowledge training conducted by the Georgia Department of Education. Ms. Tawni Taylor and Mr. Alan Barge, both specialists with the GADOE, were excellent presenters. The information shared and activities they conducted helped guide our team with regards to our overall school improvement plan and instructional strategies.

Happy Birthday...

Officer Mike McGuffey (August 28)
