Importance of the Famous Astronaut Buzz Aldrin
Buzz Aldrin, a famous astronaut who ventured on the Apollo 11 and Gemini 12 misions, was and is very important to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to this day. By 1966, Aldrin and astronaut Jim Lovell were assigned to the Gemini 12 mission. From November 11 to 15, Aldrin made a 5 hour spacewalk, which was the longest and most successful spacewalk ever done at that specific time. He also used his abilities to recalculate docking maneuvers after the on-board radar failed. One of his other assignments was to be apart of the back-up crew of the Apollo 8 mission. One of his last important missions, Apollo 11, he served as the lunar module pilot. He was the second man to walk on the moon, following Neil Armstrong, the commander of the mission. When he returned to Earth, along with his other crewmmates, they were awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for being the first men to walk on the moon, one of the main reasons why Buzz Aldrin was a very important asset to NASA and the United States.
