WAGGONER ROAD JUNIOR HIGH
September 2023
Hello,
As we finish up our second full week of school, I appreciate all of your support and help. Our students MAP tested this week and we did not have any issues. We are settling into our normal daily routine. Classes are really diving into their academics and working to help support your students' learning needs. Overall, this has been a very successful start of the school year. We have a lot of new staff and have been working though getting a lot of moving pieces settled. This past week we did change several schedules because we are eliminating classes that we were unable to hire a teacher for. I believe that learning is best when students are able to work directly with their teachers in the classroom. Unfortunately, we do have a few elective classes that are online due to lack of staff, but our students are set up and are doing well. As everyone is well aware, we are very full as a building, but I want everyone to know that when the door shuts and our teachers are teaching in their room, our classroom sizes are normal and we have high expectations this year of student achievement. I have a few general reminders for parents:
In the parking lot during drop off and pick up, please watch your speed. We have been notified of several cars driving faster than they should be and that does create a safety concern.
If your student attends any district or building sporting event, the same expectations of behavior are applied as if they are at school. They can be held accountable by the school for any issues, as it is a school event. All fans are being asked to stay in their seats and enjoy the game. Some students like to roam around or play around with their friends and sporting events are not the place for that.
Please reach out to your teachers and administrators with any questions or concerns, as I want to have very open communication with our families.
Thank you for your support!

OATES CORNER
I am so excited that this week I got to go into classrooms and see the extraordinary things students have been engaged in learning. I heard about careers, goals, and even watched students holding bugs for experiments! Mr. Shield, that’s Gross, but fun :) A few reminders from Mrs. Oates are to make sure that students are thinking about how they can be respectful to our school. Things like picking up trash, and making sure to put things back in proper places. We are one community, and we want to take pride in our school. One other reminder is for students to make sure they are getting rest. The beginning of the school year can be rough with getting used to being in class again, give yourself time for rest. Finally, I have had many meetings where they are working to rebuild relationships. I love that our students are so aware of who they are, and working to be strong leaders. I will end with one of the quotes I have been speaking with them about this week, “Remember to not let temporary emotions cause you to make a permanent decision.” I am honored to be here, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our WRJH Kids!
P.S. Enjoy the picture of Mr. Shields bugs in their habitat!
MS. WOODARD'S MESSAGE
Greetings Waggoner Road Junior High Family!
I am one of your Assistant Principals this year and I can’t express enough how happy I am to be here. I look forward to working with you and building a team with you to ensure that your students reach their fullest potential. I am absolutely ecstatic to build relationships with all the students in the building and help to support each one individually. I come to you with 9 years of experience in education and two of those years I have spent as an administrator. I graduated from The Ohio State University. I currently hold a Bachelors and two Master’s in Education. I grew up in a small town and I was a troubled youth, so it is truly a testimony to be where I am now. I am humbled and honored to be able to share my experiences and give back to young adults. This is my passion and something I really feel I was born to do. If you need anything… Please…do not hesitate to reach out to me. I will do my best to help or find someone who can. I am a movement by myself, but parents, I am an absolute force when we work together! I hope for the very best success this 23-24 school year… LET'S GO!!!!
Yours in Education,
Assistant Principal: Ebony Woodard

Arrival and pick-up. We have 23 buses that will surround the building at drop off and arrival each day. Parents/guardians that drop off and pick up their students are asked to park in the parking lot between the two buildings. There is a crosswalk and we will have a crossing guard to guide the students to their vehicle. Cars cannot move through the bus area because that becomes very dangerous.
