Hamilton Elementary Food Drive
Hamilton Elementary will be holding a food drive the week of December 4-8, 2017. The food collected will be distributed to families in need in our area. You may send in any food item you wish to donate on any day that week. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
Canned foods: vegetables, soup, fruit
Peanut butter, canned tuna/chicken, chili
Dry foods: pasta, beans, rice
Toiletries, personal items (such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant)
**We are also in need of empty boxes (medium-sized) to store the donated items in. Please send boxes in with your child, or you may drop them off in the front office.**
Are you interested in Helping out a Family for Christmas?
We are continuing our tradition of helping out our sister Cy-Fair school that has many families in need for the holidays. We still have many items left still to purchase, so if you would like to participate by purchasing items for these children, please contact Michelle Erickson for details. The gifts (unwrapped) will need to be brought to Hamilton by Friday, December 8.

Horizons/Gifted and Talented Testing Update: If you referred your child to be tested for the Horizons (GT) program, testing will begin when we return from our holiday break. Letters will be sent home prior to break indicating the specific dates of testing for your child to be tested.
Credit by Exam: The State Board of Education has established procedures to allow elementary students to “skip” one grade level by taking a series of exams which assess the Texas Essential Knowledge/Skills (TEKS) established for that grade level. Parents interested in having their children screened for credit-by-exam should contact their school counselor, Michelle Erickson at michelle.erickson@cfisd.net. If the school is unable to answer a question, please call Diane Garland at the Instructional Support Center (281-517-6848).
For Students in grades K-5 wanting to skip NEXT YEAR’S grade level, there will be 3 more opportunities to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to the next grade level (February, June, and August 2018). Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered. Students may be tested at their campus in February 2018 to accelerate for the upcoming school year (2018-2019). If students qualify, grade placement will be made at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year.
Are you Interested in Becoming a Mentor? We need you! Are you interested in making a difference in a child’s life? The Cy-Fair Mentor program is a cooperative effort of volunteers from buisnesses, faith-based and/or non-profit organizations, the community, and Cy-Fair ISD designed to encourage students (K-12) to finish school and to focus on future education goals and career choices. A committed mentor can be a wonderful role-model by helping a student with his/her academic and social development.
If you are interested in making a commitment to a child here at Hamilton Elementary, you will first need to attend a district training session at the Berry Center, and complete a mentor application. If you would like to get more information, or to sign up for a training session and access the mentor applications, you can log onto the CFISD website at www.cfisd.net/mentor, or contact Leslie Francis in the Community Engagement Department at leslie.francis@cfisd.net or at 281-894-3950.
Watch Dog Program: UPDATE
If you are a new Watch Dog Dad this year, and did not attend the training in the fall semester, you will need to be sure and attend either the AM or the PM trainings on January 9th, or you will not be able to participate as a WD Dad this year.
