Attention Fifth Graders/Slauson Welcome/June 5

Greetings Incoming 6th Grade Slauson Families:

The Slauson staff is excited to welcome all of our new Golden Bears to middle school this fall!

All incoming Slauson students are invited to virtually attend an Incoming 6th Grade Class Meeting on Friday, June 5th from 11:00-11:30 AM via Google Meet.
The meeting will be hosted by Dr. Anglin and Mr. Szwejkowsi, your Slauson principal and assistant principal. Students will be able to meet 6th grade staff, view a brief orientation video, and ask questions.

Next week, your child will receive an invitation through their AAPS student email account from the Slauson administration to attend the virtual class meeting with login and access information. Parents/guardians will also be copied on this information using the email address on file.

If you or your child have not received the invitation email by Wednesday, please email Ms. Chabot at to receive access instructions.

Slauson Middle School

Middle School Math Testing Out

Candidates for Testing Out

Current 5th graders who have historically been successful in testing out of a middle school math course have exhibited the following benchmarks:

  • Students are prepared to show proficiency on the Math 6 Standards.

  • NWEA test scores in the 75th percentile or higher on at least one of the last two tests

  • Previous M-Step scores of a 3 (proficient) or 4 (advanced proficient) on the last assessment

  • Math report card standards assessed at 3 or 4 for 70% or greater of the total number of standards

Plans for Testing

  • Testing out will occur online for 2020 due to the school closure

  • Dates:

    • Middle School math testing out will occur on July 10

  • Testing Details:

    • Testing will occur online using:

      • A Chromebook set to kiosk mode

      • The Schoology platform testing capabilities including embedded Desmos calculator

    • Chromebooks will be issued through ITD set up specifically for testing out

    • Set amount of time for each test

    • Procedures for administering tests in home environment

  • Registration: May 13 - June 3 - No registration after June 3

The AADL offers Brainfuse free of charge for any AAPS student with a library card. More details here.

Connecting Together: AAPS Parent Support Group

As we wrap up the school year, join the AAPS school psychologists for special editions of Connecting Together: A Parent Support group. This group is an opportunity to get support and ideas from AAPS staff and other parents, now focused on special topics. See below for dates, topics and registration information:

Technology Needs

Support for Remote Learning

AAPS will continue to distribute devices and assist with internet access for families throughout the closure. Please complete a device request form and know that you can receive technology assistance by calling the family HELP line at 734-997-1222.

AAPS Food Service for Families

AAPS, working with Chartwells Food Service, is pleased to provide “to go” meals available for pick-up between 11am – 12:30pm on:

  • Tuesday, June 2 (for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday meals)
  • Friday, June 5 (for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday meals)

Pick-up at the locations listed below.

These meals are intended for children up to 18 years old and any child with special needs up to 26 years old. AAPS will distribute these meals to children, parents/guardians. The meals will contain a balanced breakfast and lunch.

Because we are practicing social distancing we ask that you pick-up your meals and take them home to eat.

AAPS Food Service Hotline – If you have food allergy needs or cannot make it to a pick-up please call 734-994-2265. Arrangements will be made.
