It's Been a Great Week at Hoover!

Report Cards & Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be scheduled with your student's teacher on or around Oct. 10th. For the first 9 weeks, a printed report card will be provided to parents at conferences. After the first 9 weeks, we will be switching to electronic report cards like the middle school and high school. Copies of grades and report cards are always available for print/download from Power School.

Student Council

Hoover's student council is now in session. Student council representatives began meeting as a group this week with their sponsors Mr. Spencer and Ms. Baker. Hoover has traditionally had a very active student council. These students work together representing their classrooms by planning family movie nights, the school carnival, school-wide service projects and much more!

Notes from the Nurse

Dear Parents,

Great news! Our school has partnered with Indiana Dental Outreach…the mobile dentists to offer in-school dental care. CLICK HERE to sign up your child today. Dental care is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted including Medicaid and Hoosier Healthwise. A low cost self-pay option is available for those without insurance. Also, forms were sent home with your child this week. You can complete the form online or return the one sent home to me.

September is National Childhood Obesity Month. According to the CDC, 1 in 5 (19%) of children in the United State has obesity. Many factors can have an impact on childhood obesity, including eating, physical activity, genetics, and home environment. Here are some things that we can do as parents to support our children with their journey to good health:

  1. Provide nutritious, lower calorie foods (fruits and vegetables) rather than ones high in added sugars and solid fats. As I mentioned last week, be creative, have fun with making meals and snacks
  2. Limit sugary beverages and juice intake. Make sure your child is drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day instead.
  3. Encourage your child to be active and get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. The weather has been beautiful, go on a walk with your child in the evening.
  4. Be a role model! Eat healthy meals and snacks, and get the right amount of physical activity every day too!

Sincerely,

Sabrina Cyr BSN, RN
