Alan Turing
Alan Turing is famous for being a professional computer scientist. Alan Mathison Turing 23 June 1912 – 7 June 1954) was a British computerpioneering scientist, mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst and theoretical biologist. He was highly influential in the development of computer science, providing a formalisation of the concepts of algorithm and computation with the Turing machine, which can be considered a model of a general purpose computer. Turing is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence
Alan Turing (Age 16)
This year is a special year for me, and for many other mathematicians like me. This year we shall be celebrating 'Turing Year'; that is the centenary of the birth of one of our greatest 20th century mathematicians, Alan Turing. There are many special events planned for this year to mark the occasion, with even the Royal Mail announcing a postage stamp of Turing for their 'Britons of Distinction' series. To see a list of other Turing Centenary events, take a look at the Turing year.
