Welcome to the end of Week 9 - the end of the term is quickly approaching! As we get close to the end of the term and with the change in season, we are beginning to notice some kids getting sick and run down, please make sure if your child is sick to call the office and let us know they are away.

It has been great to see all the wonderful learning happening in the classes! The classrooms are really 'pumping' with learning! The seniors are even beginning to use the new chromebooks we have purchased this year to help support their learning. Big thanks to Ms Pretty and the senior team for setting these chromebooks up. Our goal is that our senior students will be prepared with this technology and google system when they go on to their intermediates.

We can't wait to share all the learning that is happening in the class and share the progress our students are making in their learning in the learning conferences next week. Please make sure that you have booked in to meet with your child's teacher - see the details below. If you can not book in at home, see the junior or senior office and we can book this for you. We are after 100% attendance of parents/caregivers to these conferences.

This week we closed the school pool. We nearly made it to the end of the term, but it was a week too far for one of our pumps which blew up. A big thanks to Mr McAuley for keeping the pool going all term! If you have a school pool key, please hand this back in to the school office to receive your bond back.

This week your child may have mentioned that we have practised a 'Lockdown Drill' this week. This is part of our evacuation drills and policy at Vogeltown that we practise each term. It was also good to have a practise of this in light of recent events in Christchurch. The drill went really well and we have made some changes to help us with communication between staff during the lockdown. We are confident that if we ever have to do a lockdown for real, we will have good procedures that will keep everyone safe.

This week and next we are lucky enough to have Jack Kirifi from the Taranaki Rugby Union taking our seniors for Rippa Rugby. Vogeltown school are again this year hosting and running the North Taranaki Rippa Rugby event at Vogeltown Park on the 14th May - we are looking forward to involving as many kids in this event as possible.

Our apologies for cancelling the Home and School meeting this week. We will let you know when the next meeting will be, it will probably be in the first week of next term.

Daylight saving finishes this weekend so make the most of this evening and tomorrow evening. Remember to put your clocks back on Saturday night to make sure you get to school on time on Monday!

Well done to these awesome kids who received a Principal's award today:

Zoey Flay, Poppy Telfer, Victoria Crawford, Emma Wills, Eldon Price, Jaela Hannah, Sam Collins, Paige Margetts, Lilly Cowan, Cierra Jones, Marco Korff, Lucah McCarvill, Millie Casswell, Ashlee Hay, Wairua Te Whana, Ruby Smith, Marco Remihana, Oli Treadway, Maddison Hammond, Jean Lingenfelder, Ruby Smith, Ethan Chan, Nala Singh, Charlee Chase, Hunter Magon, Jacob McEldowney, Jodeci McLeod.

Tu Meke Whanau!

A huge thanks to Mr Ransfield who organised and ran a very exciting golden handball competition this week! The kids have been well engaged and enjoyed the chance to play against each other in some 'fierce' battles.

We had a finals day, similar to our golden padder-tennis finals, this morning and the result was:

1st (Golden Hand trophy) boy: Jae Lallu

1st (Golden Hand Trophy) girl: Nala Singh

A big thank you to everyone who wore their gumboots and supported the gumboot day today! It was great to see all the kids and staff running around in the gumboots - they have a sound that is uniquely kiwi!

Thanks also to those people who donated a gold coin. This will be given to the 'I am hope' charity. To view more about this, please visit www.iamhope.org.nz/gumbootfriday.

The total we raised was: $216 - thank you Vogeltown community!

If you know of any families/enrolments that may be coming to Vogeltown, please get them to contact Lee Newland or Mr Ogle.

If your child is turning 5 soon and you are planning on bringing them to Vogeltown, then please can you get an enrolment pack from the office and get the form in.

As part of planning for class sizes and maintaining good student to teacher class ratios, we need to know what enrolments we have coming to VS.

A reminder that our school is governed by an enrolment scheme. Families and students who live within the school zone are automatically accepted. Out of zone families and students need to apply for an 'Out of Zone application' to come to VS. More info about the enrolment scheme can be found here: http://www.vogeltown.school.nz/zoning-2016/out-of-zone-enrollment-form/

This year is election year for all schools to nominate and appoint new Board of Trustees members. We have some of our current BOT leaving us after this term and will not be seeking re-election. This leaves the way for any new members of our community who would like to be part of our Board Of Trustees to think about putting themselves up for election.

If you have never thought about being on the BOT, then now might be the time! It is a great position and an important one to help with the direction and governance decisions of the school.

The important dates for this year are:

10th May Call for BoT nominations

24th May Nominations close

29th May Voting papers are sent out to families on the roll

7th June Election Day

13th June Votes counted

14th June New VS BoT takes office.

I have 3 vouchers up for grabs so email me on michelle.sleep@vogeltown.school.nz and tell me what was so amazing about your coach. The lucky winners will be revealed in next weeks newsletter!!

Health Curriculum survey at Vogeltown 2019 - LAST WEEK!

Below is a link for the Health Survey. We have to complete this survey each year as part of our self review of health and well being. The feedback we receive will help us to build a better health curriculum for our community, give us some guidance for our teaching and learning and continue to develop trends that we need to plan for in the future.

There are two links, one in Google Form and one in Survey Monkey, both are the same questions.

As part of reporting to parents and caregivers over the year about your child's progress, we offer Learning Conferences. This is a great time to meet with your child's teacher and discuss their current competencies, learning and learning goals for the rest of the year. This year we are doing Learning Conferences a little earlier than in previous years, with conferences in the last week of this term. At this conference you will receive a progress report covering all of the above.

We aim for 100% attendance by parents and caregivers - if you can not make a conference we will contact you by phone to book a time or do one over the phone.

The process for formally reporting to whanau is:

Term 1 Progress Report & Learning Conferences

Term 2 Personal and Social competencies report (this will come home)

Term 3 Progress Report & Learning Conferences

Term 4 Summative Report (this will come home).

Our interviews this term will be on Wednesday 10th April and Thursday 11th April. Mrs Seed (Room 9) will be away on the Wednesday so you will be able to book times to meet on Monday the 8th April instead. To book a time with your child’s teacher, please use the website - www.parentinterviews.co.nz

and use the following codes:

Monday 8th April (Room 9 whanau only)

Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th April. (Please note, you can not book Room 9 on the Wednesday the 10th)
