TE KURA O HUATOKI. WEEK 9 TERM 1 2019

Initiative is being asked to do things by yourself without being asked to.
Signs of Success:

* People might say ‘you are a helpful person’
* You might get a comment on your report ‘a responsible, mature student’
* You are often asked to do important jobs for people
KIA ORA WHANAU, FROM MR O
It has been great to see all the wonderful learning happening in the classes! The classrooms are really 'pumping' with learning! The seniors are even beginning to use the new chromebooks we have purchased this year to help support their learning. Big thanks to Ms Pretty and the senior team for setting these chromebooks up. Our goal is that our senior students will be prepared with this technology and google system when they go on to their intermediates.
We can't wait to share all the learning that is happening in the class and share the progress our students are making in their learning in the learning conferences next week. Please make sure that you have booked in to meet with your child's teacher - see the details below. If you can not book in at home, see the junior or senior office and we can book this for you. We are after 100% attendance of parents/caregivers to these conferences.
This week we closed the school pool. We nearly made it to the end of the term, but it was a week too far for one of our pumps which blew up. A big thanks to Mr McAuley for keeping the pool going all term! If you have a school pool key, please hand this back in to the school office to receive your bond back.
This week your child may have mentioned that we have practised a 'Lockdown Drill' this week. This is part of our evacuation drills and policy at Vogeltown that we practise each term. It was also good to have a practise of this in light of recent events in Christchurch. The drill went really well and we have made some changes to help us with communication between staff during the lockdown. We are confident that if we ever have to do a lockdown for real, we will have good procedures that will keep everyone safe.
This week and next we are lucky enough to have Jack Kirifi from the Taranaki Rugby Union taking our seniors for Rippa Rugby. Vogeltown school are again this year hosting and running the North Taranaki Rippa Rugby event at Vogeltown Park on the 14th May - we are looking forward to involving as many kids in this event as possible.
Our apologies for cancelling the Home and School meeting this week. We will let you know when the next meeting will be, it will probably be in the first week of next term.
Daylight saving finishes this weekend so make the most of this evening and tomorrow evening. Remember to put your clocks back on Saturday night to make sure you get to school on time on Monday!

ENROLMENTS AT VOGELTOWN
If your child is turning 5 soon and you are planning on bringing them to Vogeltown, then please can you get an enrolment pack from the office and get the form in.
As part of planning for class sizes and maintaining good student to teacher class ratios, we need to know what enrolments we have coming to VS.
A reminder that our school is governed by an enrolment scheme. Families and students who live within the school zone are automatically accepted. Out of zone families and students need to apply for an 'Out of Zone application' to come to VS. More info about the enrolment scheme can be found here: http://www.vogeltown.school.nz/zoning-2016/out-of-zone-enrollment-form/
Thanks.
