TRADES ACADEMY 2023
We have an opportunity for students who will be in year 12 in 2023 to become part of the MIT Te Pūkenga Trades Academy Programme. This programme runs for the full school year in term time only. We have spaces in the following course options:
- Full year Building
- Half year Building / Half year Electrical*
*Half Year Electrical comprises of a significant amount of theory work so a good understanding of maths and science is desirable.
If students have chosen 12 Trade Skills as an option for next year, they will need to contact their HOH to see if they can change to another subject.
Courses begin the week of 13th February and are held in the Tech Park Manukau facility. The school will provide transport in a taxi van both to and from MIT Te Pūkenga. The taxi will depart the college at 8:30am promptly and returns at the end of the teaching session at 3pm. If students catch a bus to/from school they will need to make alternative arrangements to be dropped off and picked up on their MIT Te Pūkenga days.
There is no cost to students to attend the Trades Academy course, they wear mufti and are provided with health and safety regulation clothing and footwear.
As students will miss one day of school per week it is important that they liaise with their teachers to ensure that they keep up with their classwork, assessments etc.
To register interest for a student to attend Trades Academy in 2023, email Karen McConchie / Careers Adviser k.mcconchie@rosehillcollege.school.nz / DDI 295 0692 or 295 0661ext 848

Pānui Hakinakina / Sports Bulletin
As another week draws to a close, and with one week to go on the 2022 sports season, I feel it is a great time to reflect on the year that has been.
We started under unusual circumstances, trying to operate sports under the traffic light system. This brought about some sport and also some disruptions but it was great to see our teams take to the field for the summer sports season. Winter sports started under much the same circumstances with many of our teams being hampered by COVID and COVID restrictions. Despite this we managed to get a full winter season completed, with several of our teams also competing in Winter Tournament Week.
Term 4 saw the junior students take to summer sport, we had volleyball, softball and touch teams all competing regularly with volleyball and softball each competing in their respective Auckland Championships.
This year we offered more than 20 sports and had more than 400 students participating in 1 or more sports. It is pleasing to see that with a return of sport students’ have been eager to get involved again and I look forward to this growing again in 2023.
With our focus starting to shift to 2023 we know we are on the lookout for coaches for some of our teams.
If you are interested in coaching or would like more information about the following teams please contact me, n.bailey@rosehillcollege.school.nz;

Congratulations
Congratulations to Tessa Ulae who attended the Girls Day Out Festival and has won a $25.00 Prezzi Card for her engagement at the Cancer Society HPV Vaccination booth.
Thanks to Erana Boyd and Katie Turnwald from the Cancer Society for coming in to present Tessa with her prize.
Softball
Unfortunately the weather got involved this week and meant that the boys’ softball team on Monday was unable to play. They have one game remaining for the junior season next week.
Touch
After another slow start to the game, Rosehill found themselves down by 3 points against a strong Aorere team. Teamwork allowed the girls to strike back and eventually at full time it was 4-4 all, sending the game into a championship drop off.
Aorere scored in the first set off the drop off to lead 5-4. Rosehill then, with their right to reply, scored to make it 5-5 a piece. The drop off went down to 3 girls each side, with Rosehill scoring the winning try. A strong game by teams who had previously drawn both games they played against each other. Well done Rosehill girls unbeaten, congratulations to all the parents of the girls team.
Boys Touch had a win by default meaning they finished 5th in their competition.
A big thanks to Mr Pahina for coaching the teams and for driving the van each week to get the teams to the games.
Volleyball
Well done to our teams who competed in the Auckland Volleyball Championships. After several close matches for both teams our Girls ended up placing 25th, while the Boys placed 30th.
Running Club
Monday session meets in the carpark at Gate 1 if you are interested.
There are two sessions a week which anyone is welcome to attend. You can attend one or both sessions each week.
Monday morning (7.15am – 8.15am) is a 30-45 min aerobic run. We have a few courses planned out around the streets of Papakura/Karaka. We will run as a group (or 2) so it will be safe and social.
Uniform
Only the sports hoodie ordered through the Sports Office is counted as a school uniform. These hoodies are designed to NOT have a name on the back, if a name is added after collection from the Sports Office they become a non-uniform item. All other hoodies & jackets, regardless of whether or not they have the school crest, are not school uniform and will be confiscated. Please do not wear these at school, they are for training and game days only.
Term 4 Training
Below are the training times as we know them currently. As things change we will inform students and whanau via email.
