Rude? Mean? Bullying?
When students report unwanted behaviors, staff will investigate, problem solve and if reasonable, will deliver consequences. Communication to parents or guardians will follow. Depending on where and when the situation happened, you may hear from the classroom teacher, Mrs. Franz, Mrs. Tyler or any staff member who handled the situation.
When someone says or does something unintentionally hurtful and they do it once, that's RUDE.
When someone says or does something intentionally hurtful and they do it once, that's MEAN.
When someone says or does something intentionally hurtful and they keep doing it-even when you tell them to stop or show them that you're upset - that's BULLYING.
Please join us in teaching these definitions so all of us are familiar with them.
PE News
PE Weekly
October 15 - 19
This week in PE has had a lot of emphasis on physical fitness. Each grade learned the different exercises and movements involved in a dynamic warm up. The classes performed various movements in order to target different muscle groups. 3rd - 6th grade also learned how to pace themselves when running long distances. Students’ were timed in the mile as well. Kindergarten - 2nd grade played different games in order to improve lateral movement and spatial awareness. The attitudes and effort in all grades continue to be awesome!
PLEASE REMEMBER: Your child needs to wear or bring tennis shoes everyday for the gym. This is a safety issue for your child so they may safely participate in the activities!
Do not hesitate to contact me via email or stop by the class with questions!

Phone Changes
1. You will now be prompted with the option to "press 1 for Attendance". This will send you to a specific mailbox to leave a message if your student is absent. When you leave your student's information, the absence will be entered promptly. As always, you can send a note with your student after the absence and it will be cleared.
2. We now have a separate email for all dismissal related changes. For student safety, our procedure for any changes in dismissal should be done in writing. This can be a note to the teacher in the morning, a note in a student's planner, or an email to the office.
The new email address is mcbridesecretary@sthelens.k12.or.us and it will be sent to both secretaries in the office to ensure the message is communicated to the student. Phone call changes are not typical and should be reserved for emergency only. Thank you for partnering with us to keep kids safe!

Matt & Kristal Freeman - (parents) - Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Freeman for bringing St. Helens Grill to our Back to School Night and then giving back to our library a whole set of OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) books. What a gift! Thank you.
Miss Mary and Kendra Griffin - (1st grade teachers) - Miss Mary and Mrs. Griffin was nominated by their new teammate this week because of the support they offer and the collegiality Miss Kotler feels.
PTO BOARD and Parent Volunteer Super Heroes - WOW! What an awesome Fun Run. We loved last Friday. The theme, the organization and the fun was appreciated. What a great day! Thank you!
Granpda Rick - Grandpa Rick comes and volunteers every day in a first grade class. WOW! This is dedication. Mrs. Griffin and all of us Mustangs are so grateful! Thank you!
Chelsie Orr (Head Secretary) - Mrs. Orr is a constant problem solver for staff, student and parents. Her helpful and willing attitude is a welcome to those that enter the office!
Melissa Howard - (Speech Pathologist) One day after school Mrs. Howard came into a colleague's classroom to talk about a student and she stayed way longer than she had to so she could make sure her colleague was getting the support she needed. She listened, gave feedback and offered ideas to support. Way to go, Mrs. Howard! You made a difference!
Mrs. Howard was nominated two times - another colleague would like to recognize her as a rock star this year. She has an increased caseload and is positive and generous in attitude. She takes time out of her busy schedule to sit in classrooms, problem solve with teachers all the while running hearing screenings. We are thankful, Mrs. Howard, you are a McBride Mustang!
Sarah Landels - (4th grade teacher) Sara has been going out of her way to connect her 4th graders with other students from the preschoolers to high school football players. She is even building strong connections by inviting the preschoolers to be little buddies with her students once a month and inviting football players to come into her classroom to work with her students!
Noydena Douglass, Owen McCartney, Beth Davis, Heidi Green, and Katie Quick (all McBride staff) These staff members were helpful to a colleague who had to be out for several days. They jumped in and covered supervision duties for this staff member! Thank you for supporting our McBride family when we needed it.
Lindsay Luttrell (3rd grade teacher) - Mrs. Luttrell's classroom is in A-Pod that is shared with Kindergarteners. There was a student who was experiencing difficulty one day this week and Mrs. Luttrell jumped in to help find the appropriate support for this student.
Chris Stewart (5th grade teacher) Mrs. Stewart was nominated this week by a teammate. She represents strength, kindness, and compassion always, however this week during a difficult moment she was present and supported when it was needed.
Jenna Wright (6th grader) Jenna took time during the fire/earthquake drill to lead 7 kinders who got separated from Ms B to their spot, holding their hands and keeping them in a group like a mother duck. It was precious! Thank you, Jenna!
Chris Swift - (Classroom Assistant) - Mr. Swift is so helpful to make sure that paper is stocked in the work rooms. He takes it upon himself to do the little things to make it easy for other staff.
Rosalie Sumsion (Title Teacher) - Mrs. Sumsion was seen vacuuming the staff room. She will spend every minute of her day working and supporting others!
Mrs. Humbird (Kindergarten Teacher) - During the Mindfulness Breaks she can be heard singing to her students, mesmerizing them with her calming, sweet voice. These Mindfulness Breaks are helping our students and Mrs. Humbird has embraced them with her sweet and kind way.
John Scott (2nd grader) - John has been a terrific role model for others during his reading group. He works hard, sets a good example and stays calm. He is accepting of everyone.
Miss White's 5th class - Miss White's 5th graders (in secret for two days) collaborated on an art piece that had all their signatures on it to surprise her. This was a big surprise that showed appreciation and love to their teacher.
Dani Boylan (Preschool Teacher) Ms. Boylan is always meets others excited to share what is happening in the preschool room. She goes as far as to offer to support parents outside of the school day and she's worked with Miss Landels to partner with her 4th graders. Thank you for bringing such a sweet preschool atmosphere to McBride.
