November's Character Trait is Being Thankful!
Early Dismissal - November 13th
On Friday, November 13th, the district will be releasing students early. The Elementary School will dismiss at 11:30 AM and the HS/MS will dismiss at 11:45 AM. There will be no virtual learning in the afternoon on this day as staff will be engaging in professional responsibilities. Lunches will still be available to all students, however some of our students will be provided a grab and go lunch.
2nd Semester Hybrid/Virtual Learning Models
Information will be provided regarding families wishing to change their student's learning model for the second semester. Second semester will begin on February 1st. A survey will be sent home to all families on November 24th. Only those families wishing to change their child’s instructional model for the second half of the school year need to complete this form. The survey will need to be completed by December 4th. Based on the results of that survey, the district may need to make further adjustments to the schedules at each building to accommodate safety requirements, transportation, and instruction.
Virtual Snow Days
The school district plans on participating in the NYSED pilot program this year, transitioning to remote instruction during “snow days.” Each school will have a set schedule for students to follow on days when the buildings are closed due to inclimate weather. Please review the virtual/snow day schedule:
Period 1 8:30-9:00 Period 2 9:10-9:40 Period 3 9:50-10:20 Period 4 10:30-11:00 Period 5 12:00-12:30 Period 6(Lunch) 12:40-1:10 Period 7 1:20-1:50 Period 8 2:00-2:30
How Virtual Snow Days Will Work in the Middle School
Students will be asked to log into 1st period. Teachers will take attendance, review the entire schedule and remind students where their assignments will be posted.
Students will have the option to complete their coursework during the class period they are scheduled to attend or may elect to complete their assignments at an alternative time during the day.
Advantages of Virtual Snow Days
Depending on current weather conditions and predictions, Dr. Stratton may have the ability to announce a snow day earlier. Potentially, this may assist families with developing contingency plans for things, such as child care, etc.
As you may know, the state requires students to attend 180 days of school each year. Typically, school districts reserve a few days in their calendar for snow emergencies/closures. If a school district exceeds their number of snow days, schools are required to use vacation days (possibly spring break) to reach the required number of school days. The advantage of utilizing virtual snow days would reduce the possibility of using vacation days.
Academic Intervention Services - AIS
AIS services will be offered to students starting in November. If your child qualifies for AIS services, you will be notified and a letter explaining how these services will be delivered will be mailed home. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the middle school office.
