Internship Fall 2014

Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital

What is the most important thing you learned about working with others? Describe a time where you worked well with others, or a time where you struggled to work well with others.

The most important thing I learned about working with others while attending my internship is that you have to be kind and respectful while you are caring for patients or even while talking to the nurses and doctors. One of the many times that I worked well with others is when one of the nurses asked me to go into the rooms and ask the patients if they need anything.

Describe a time when you were really frustrated and explain how you dealt with it. What did you learn?

There was only one time when I was really frustrated and it was when I couldn't figure out how to read the contraction charts. One of the nurses helped clear it up for me so that I would know how to do it in the future.

Explain how your experience at the internship will impact your High School and further education. Have any of your plans changed? How have they changed?

My experience at my internship will impact my high school and further education because I know how to properly interact with people now and what its like to be in a work environment. None of my plans have changed for my future. Attending this internship has made me more eager to start my nursing classes.

Describe your internship site. Give the name location, general surroundings and what products and services they offer.

My internship was at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital OB. Hugh Chatham is located in Elkin, North Carolina. The OB unit is located on the 3rd floor. They call it the birth place. You have to have a badge to scan to go through the double doors or you have to press the call button so that the nurses could let you in. They deliver babies and they do other surgeries and take care of other illnesses dealing with the female reproductive system.

Describe an activity or accomplishment in the internship that you are proud of. What did you learn from it?

An accomplishment that I am proud of is when I learned how to use the machines for the first time. We're not aloud to touch the machines but we are able to observe it and we got to observe the other nurses using them a lot. The more we watched them the more I understand it. I learned that with things like that you have to observe to learn how to use them
