Bulldog Bites

Your weekly update from the South Glens Falls CSD

Dear SGF Families,

We are off to an excellent start for our 2022-23 school year! It is so exciting to hear our hallways again with our students’ voices and laughter. Be sure to see all the fun we had on our Facebook page.

We have a few important updates for you this week, as well as some calendar items of interest.

First Day

Kids These Days

The administration and staff of the South Glens Falls CSD give a huge thank you to Dr. Jody Carrington. Dr. Carrington came to our district on Tuesday to speak with our faculty and staff during our opening ceremony.

Dr. Carrington, the author of Kids These Days, has worked as a psychologist for more than 20 years. Her message is to remind people that their power lies in the ability to acknowledge each other first.

Dr. Carrington’s work focused on reconnection and helped our staff prepare for a new year with new ideas for interacting with our students. Many of our team were very inspired by her talk. Dr. Carrington's book and ideas have been hot topics of discussion.

A Bright Star Indeed

Congratulations to South High junior Sophia Belden, who will be staring as Edna in the Fort Salem Theater production of Bright Star! She is also the understudy for two other characters.

See the Fort Salem Theater website for more information or to buy tickets!

Those who saw the district's production of Matilda in the spring will remember Sophia as Lavender.

Off and Away

New this year, the high school has updated its cell phone and electronic device policy. See our High School Cell Phone Policy for full details of these requirements.

Seeking: Ski Coach

SGF added downhill and nordic skiing to the athletic offerings this school year! At this time, we have no coaches and will not be able to run the programs until we can fill these positions. If you are interested in becoming a coach, please contact Flora Covey at coveyf@sgfcsd.org.

Sports Update

We have posted several tips for spectators at our athletic and extracurricular events and information about joining the booster club.

Be sure to see our athletic calendar to know when and where to support our Bulldogs!

South High drop off/ pick up reminders

    • When dropping off in the morning, PLEASE:

      • Stay out of the middle lane and use the outside loop of the parking lot. Faculty and staff use the middle lane to park; separating those two is essential for everyone’s safety.

      • Pull up to the orange cone at the Bulldog Entrance if you are the first car in the line.

      • Have your student have all of their belongings ready so they can exit as fast as possible.

      • Do not pull into the central office parking lot for drop-off/pick.

    • Between 7:50 a.m. and 2:25 p.m., all pick-ups and drop-offs of students happen at the front entrance (with the awning) so students can sign in or out with attendance.

    • Busing usually takes time to iron out in any school year and after a few days, we settle into an efficient schedule you can rely on. If you don’t have the necessary information regarding what bus your student needs to ride (especially for external programs like BOCES), please call the Transportation Department (518-793-4443).

    * Please note that the district office parking lot should not be used for picking up/dropping off students. For the safety of our students and pedestrians, please use the designated exit locations

It covers 70 square miles in Saratoga County, serving approximately 20,000 residents in the Village of South Glens Falls and towns of Moreau, Northumberland and Wilton. The total district enrollment is about 3,000 students.
