A Special Visit Before Break
The Cubs came to visit our kindergartens and first graders to wish the students a nice winter break!
Students Embody Teamwork: Character Trait of the Month
Students of the Month
Early Learning Center students were recognized as the students of the month for embodying the CUBS rules.
Buddy Classes
Mrs. Mossip's fifth grade class and Mrs. Parker's first grade class, and Mrs. Toren's third graders paired up with Mrs. Jermancans' kindergarteners. The classes enjoyed sharing their reading skills, and we saw some possible future teachers!
PAHS Educators Rising Teaches at MES/ELC
Three classrooms paired up with the PAHS' Educators Rising Club. The high school students taught lessons to our classes which started with an introductory activity of lining up by birthday without speaking. Then, they broke into two groups: one group did an activity where they worked together to lift a ball with pencils. The other group was different for each grade level. Our first graders watched a YouTube video (Curious George) about teamwork and had a discussion, and the fourth and fifth grade students did brainteasers where they worked together to find the differences between two pictures.
Electric Holiday Cards in STEM
Fourth graders were studying circuits in their classes, so Mr. Paparone extended their learning during STEM class. Students used their prior knowledge of circuits and electricity to create holiday themed cards that had a colorful light. The circuits were made with batteries, paperclips, and a lightbulb and students came up with their own creative designs!
Gingerbread Houses in Mrs. Rotonda's Class
Students in Mrs. Rotonda's class had so much fun decorating gingerbread houses the week before break.

Volunteers
As we prepare for another year of in-person events and activities, we will need parent volunteers. All volunteers will need to be board approved. Please click here to register for board approval. We are planning trips and activities beginning in the fall and look forward to welcoming parent volunteers.
Birthday/Holiday Treats
Due to the many students with allergies and food reactions food items to celebrate student birthdays are not permitted. We are requesting that all birthday recognitions be non-food based. We do want to acknowledge student birthdays but encourage families to do so in other ways. For example, small items such as pencils or stickers for classmates or the donation of a book to the school or classroom library in honor of a child’s birthday would be appropriate. Thank you for honoring and respecting this request.
Holiday celebrations will be held in compliance with School Board Policy #246 Student Wellness. The policy states “The district recognizes that classroom parties and celebrations are a tradition at school. School staff and parents/guardians are encouraged to include healthy food offerings, as defined in this policy, at school parties and events to support a healthy environment throughout the district.” Policy 246 can be viewed in its entirety by visiting the district’s website.
Holiday celebrations and end-of-year classroom celebrations will be announced in advance for parents to be prepared in determining food choices with their children. Birthday celebrations are held randomly and do not allow for parent awareness prior to the event in the school setting, which contributed to the decision for birthday recognitions to be non-food based.
