Mission Statement

The mission of J. Sterling Morton Elementary School, whose culture unites families, guarantees all students develop the academic skills and character traits necessary for personal excellence and responsible citizenship through high-quality, innovative, engaging experiences in a challenging and nurturing environment.

Weekly Update

It has been another tremendous week at Morton Elementary. Recently, you received an email outlining adjustments to our academic calendar.

There will be no school for students on the following days:

  • September 25th
  • November 3rd
  • January 4th

KidsNet: KidsNet will be available on these three teacher work days. We appreciate our partnership with the Millard Public Schools Foundation.

Election Day: The November 3rd teacher work day is very important because it is election day. Many of our buildings are polling places. During a normal year, we have several procedures in place to keep voters and students separated, but with our ongoing pandemic response, this becomes much more difficult this year. It will be important for us not to be in school on election day.

October Conferences: We look forward to a time when we can welcome you back to our buildings and hope that it will be sooner rather than later. But in the meantime we want to make sure you are able to connect with your children’s teachers. We will be holding parent-teacher conferences remotely. We will be in touch to schedule the upcoming parent teacher conferences via Zoom.

Remote Learning

The staff at Morton Elementary is dedicated to meeting the needs of each and every family within our school community. It's important to note that remote learners will continue to receive live instruction for reading, writing, and math. Remote learners will be graded the same as in person learners. All remote learners are responsible for work completion and attendance. Students must be present for the full instructional period to receive credit for attendance. If you feel that your child would benefit from a switch to in person learning at Morton, please don't hesitate to reach out. Each week we have welcomed back several of our students who were previously remote learners. Please refer to the MPS Concurrent Remote Learner Plan here.
