News and Notes

Dear Parents,

I hope you had a blessed First Sunday of Advent and a wonderful Thanksgiving break. The Christmas Season has always been my favorite time of the year as both a teacher and a principal. I love the traditions such as the Christmas concert, tree lighting and Christmas Fair. This year again, with COVID restrictions, we will not be able to celebrate the season the way we have in the past. My first inclination was to feel angry that we are not back to "normal". But instead, I focused on all we do have. Last year, we created some new wonderful traditions such as the Reindeer Stuffing zoom and the virtual giving tree and I hope to create even more. The Christmas spirit is still very much alive and I want to focus on those things we can do this year and find even more ways to celebrate the season.

Please don't forget to send me a copy of your child's vaccination card if they have had their COVID vaccine. We need this as it affects any possible quarantine status of students.

PICTURE RETAKES HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED!! Picture retakes will now be on December 8th.

Don't forget that tomorrow is the last day to order for the reindeer making event! Don't miss out!

Have a great week,

Ms. Kazan

Service Update

Tis' the season of giving, and this #GivingTuesday, we will come together as one Transfiguration community to celebrate and promote small acts of kindness. Just this past Saturday several of our 8th Grade Students helped to set-up and decorate our Giving Trees at Church.

#GivingTuesday Charity "Dress Down" - November 30: Transfiguration School will host a "Charity Dress Down" to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Transfiguration Church as they work to provide 45 local families with groceries and gift cards this holiday season. Students wishing to participate can bring the suggested $2.00 donation to their teacher on Tuesday morning. This is an optional fundraiser, and school uniforms may be worn for those who do not wish to participate. Don't forget your sneakers if it's a gym day!

GIVING TREE - November 22 through December 10: Thanks for your quick action and generous hearts! We still have about 25 Gift Tags remaining on our virtual tree. Please click the link to our SignUpGenius below if you'd like to help out! Contact Gina Mueller, glranieri@live.com, or 914-500-3732 with any questions.

Remember, during the holiday season, there are many ways to spread cheer through our community and impact the lives of those in need. Thank you!

1st Sunday of Advent

Yesterday, December 28th, marked the first Sunday of Advent. Advent is one of my favorite seasons in the Church and is often overlooked as Christmas has become more secular.

In the Catholic Church, Advent is a period of preparation during the four Sundays before Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latin advenio, "to come to," and refers to the coming of Christ. There are many wonderful rituals surrounding Advent. I have attached an Advent calendar for this week with some daily reminders, activities and prayers to do with your children.
