Your child's teacher will contact you by Wednesday afternoon at 6:00 pm to let you know whose class your child will be in. If you have not received a call by then, please call the school Thursday morning.

Please arrive in shifts by last name if your schedule allows it:

School Day

7:30 Morning student arrival - Students can be dropped off in the car rider line as early as 7:30

7:30-7:59 The car rider line is open for student drop off.

8:00 Instruction begins- Students need to be in class at this time.

3:00 End of instruction. Student dismissal begins.

3:00-3:25 The car rider line ends at 3:25. All students must be picked up by 3:25.

*If you arrive after 7:59 am you will need to park in the main parking lot out front and walk your child into the front office. The car rider line does not run until 8:00 am because students are expected to be in class at 8:00.

*If you need to sign your child out of school early please do so before 2:30 pm. The end of the day is a very busy time of day as front office personnel sends notes to classrooms and begins calling for dismissals. Please help us safely get all students home by allowing them to stay the full day and picking them up in the car rider line.

Car Rider Info

· Morning drop-off is from 7:30-7:59. Students are tardy if they are not in class at 8:00.

· At precisely 7:59 the gate to the car rider line will be closed. If you arrive after this time, please park in the front parking lot and walk your child to the office. Please do not drop your child off in front of the building. They are late and must be signed in.

· If you want your child to eat breakfast at school they need to arrive by 7:45 in order to eat and be in class by 8:00 when instruction begins. Breakfast is free this year so please arrive by 7:45.

· Please understand that if you arrive at 7:59 each day that your child will miss the first 5 minutes of class daily because of the long walk to class.

· Please have your child gather their bags and unbuckle themselves from car seats while waiting in line or by pulling out of line into the designated “Unbuckle Areas” Please be ready to exit the car when you arrive at the covered walkway. Staff members will not buckle and unbuckle students from car seats. Please understand that this looks inappropriate.

· We will load and unload 6 vehicles at a time so please have your child ready to unload.

· Afternoon pick up is from 3:00-3:25. All students must be picked up by 3:25.

· Car riders will be called at 3:00 and most students should be off campus by 3:15 after the first two weeks of school. Expect long lines and delays the first week of school as many parents prefer to drop off and pick up their children during this time.

· We will distribute car rider tags during the second week of school. Your child’s name will be written on this tag and the tag should be displayed from the rearview mirror when the parent comes to pick up the child in the afternoon. Remembering to display your tag helps speed up the car rider line significantly.

· If you forget your car rider tag you will be asked to go to the front office to pick up your child.

Please follow the traffic pattern listed below for dropping off and picking up students.

Visitors and Volunteers

  • First day of school- Parents will be allowed to walk students to class on the first day that their child attends school. After the first day, parents are allowed to walk students to the front office but not to class.

  • Lunch Guests and Volunteers- We will follow the same procedures for lunch guests as last school year. Due to safety, we will be unable to accommodate lunch guests. However, we are very excited to have the opportunity to welcome volunteers back into our buildings for the 2021-2022 school year. Volunteers are a crucial part of what we do each day, and we will be able to start scheduling volunteers after Labor Day. We will share information regarding volunteer orientations in the near future. An orientation is a required component prior to being able to volunteer at any Bryan County school.

Thank you for partnering with Bryan County Schools as we strive to create a safe, academically-focused learning environment for our students. We look forward to an amazing school year!

Special activities are scheduled to enable parents to be involved in their child's school experiences. Only adults listed on a child’s student information card will be allowed to attend class parties, pick the student up from school, and be contacted in emergencies. Please make sure that you list the appropriate adults on your child’s student information card. All visitors allowed on campus will have to submit a photo I.D. prior to visiting with students.

Breakfast and Lunch

Breakfast and lunch are served daily in the cafeteria. All students will receive free breakfast and lunch this year at BCES. Please make sure you get your child to school by 7:45 in order to eat breakfast.

Masks

Masks will be optional in all Bryan County schools this year.

Health and Safety

COVID-19

The central office, with guidance from the Department of Public Health, the Centers For Disease Control, and the Georgia Department of Education, have established guidelines for ensuring the safety of all students and staff. We will utilize these steps to provide the safest possible environment for your child.

-The building has been deep cleaned to provide a safe and sanitary environment before student arrival

-Visitors on campus will be severely limited

-Students will be educated about proper and frequent hand washing

- Students will be educated about how to sneeze without spreading germs

-Signs will be posted reminding students how to be safe

-Soap and hand sanitizer will be available to all classrooms and throughout the school

-All rooms will be cleaned daily to kill any germs

-Ventilation systems are being adjusted to circulate outdoor air more frequently

-Disposable plates and utensils will be used

-Lunch tables are aligned where students do not have anyone sitting across from them

-No-touch hand dryers and trashcans are provided in all restrooms

Medications

All medication is to be taken to the office or clinic by a parent and/or guardian with a note explaining the proper administration of the medicine. While students are at school, medications will be kept and administered in the office or clinic. While at school, students may only be administered prescription medications that have been prescribed to them. Medications must be kept in the original container and must clearly show that the medicine has been prescribed for the student. Nonprescription medicine must be accompanied by a note from the parent. Prescription medication will be logged in, and an inventory will be updated as the medication is taken. Please bring all medication to the clinic between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.

Before and After School Care Program

Before school care is offered at Bryan County Elementary School for students in grades Pre-K through 5th grade. Students can be dropped off at the rear of the school from 6:15 am–7:20 am.

After School care is offered until 6:30 PM.

The Before School and After School Programs operate every day that students are in school during the school year.

Please visit https://www.bryancountyschools.org/o/comed/page/registration for more information or to sign up.

Cell Phones

Cell phones are not needed at school. If a student has a cell phone/watch/I-Watch at school, it must be turned off and in the child’s book bag. If a child has the cell phone out in class, restroom, etc. the phone will be taken up and placed in the office until a parent comes to get it. Every child has a Chromebook with internet access at school and therefore has no need for a phone at school.
