WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD WITH THE SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
There are so many ways to help your child at home even if you are not fluent in the target language they are learning. Here are some tips for doing so:
- ask what they learned in class
- review their vocabulary or class notes with them for 5-10 minutes daily.
- listen to music in the target language.
- watch Television or movies in the target language.
- speak the target language if possible at home.
- flashcards with vocabulary
- label items in the house in the target language.
- use free digital platforms like Duolingo for 5 minutes a day.
What are we doing this Month?
Spanish Academy
Spanish 1(6th)-we have already begun to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month. We started by finding out what that celebration is about, then we worked decorating a tennis shoe with Hispanic decorations. During this month we will be talking about Hispanic people and their legacy for history. We will also be starting rehearsal for Academy night.
Spanish 1 (7th)-Students are learning:
. terms for traveling and vacations
. seasons and months
. weather expressions
. ordinal numbers (1st-10th)
. Las cataratas del Iguazú

. estar with conditions and emotions
. adjectives for conditions and emotions

Project: Spanish travel comic strip project- During this project, students will create their own comic strips of a fun vacation, label Spanish travel vocabulary in their scenes, and write sentences to describe them.
Spanish 2- Students are learning:
. food terms
. meal-related words
. Fruits and vegetables native to the Americas
. Spanish chef Ferran Adria
. preterite of stem-changing verbs
. double object pronouns
. comparisons

. expressing and supporting opinions
. writing a restaurant review
. a television commercial for Sopas Roa, a colombian brand of package soups.

Projects:
- Spanish food truck project- This project will allow students to practice their written Spanish by creating a food truck menu in Spanish.
- Food in Spanish Speaking Country Field Trip- Students will explore food and culture around the world! They will read, see pictures and watch short videos of Spanish Speaking Countries.
French Academy
French 1(6th)-The students are learning vocabulary words on classroom items, people and descriptive adjectives. For Grammar, they will also learn the subject pronouns, the verb “être” and adjective agreement.
French 1 (7th)-The students are learning about food, quantities, sports/activities and expressions with the verb faire (to do/make) in French. In addition, they are learning the present tense of regular -ir and -re ending verbs and a French-Canadian song “Alouette”.
French 2- The students are learning about houses chores vocabulary words in French. For grammar, they are learning the present tense of the verbs savoir and connaître (to know). They are still learning about le monde francophone and the passé composé (past tense) with the present-tense form of avoir/ être (the auxiliary verb) and the imperfect.
Two Way Dual Language Academy
sexto grado(6)- students will be working on the rules of noun gender and the use of the verb ser. They will create sentences and use the correct articles based on the grammatical syntax and how to identify them correctly.
séptimo grado(7)-students continue working on word classification. we will cover everything from Agudas, Llanas y Esdrujulas and how to recognize words in sentences and write them correctly to have better written and systematic sentence organization.
octavo grado AP(8)-Students are in the Families and communities unit. they are learning about how social media can affect you personally in negative and positive ways. We will begin practicing the speech components of the AP test based on the units we are in. We will be working on the email reply as well.
