PCHS Pirate Update
December 18, 2020
Parent/Student Newsletters are typically sent on the third Friday of each month.
From our Principal, Dr. Jones
Pirate Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you in positive spirits around the holiday season. It has been a fascinating first six months on the job as I have learned a lot about the students, staff, and Platte County Community. I couldn’t have chosen a more dedicated and committed group of people to partner with as we strive to make Platte County High School the best place for kids. I am hopeful that our most challenging days are over and the next six months will be filled with all students in our classroom and fans in the stands to support our pirates. The past six months have taught me that our community is resilient and we have exactly what it takes to support one another, be advocates for all kids and be flexible when it comes to making tough decisions.
Starting after the break, there will be a transition week as we prepare for the start of the third quarter. This week will include make up days for exams, workshops for students around planning, team-building with advisories, conferencing opportunities with counselors, and other educational opportunities to get ready for the third quarter. On Jan. 6th we are inviting all new students to Pirate Orientation from 8-9:30 a.m. This includes all students who are transitioning from remote learning to in-person learning, any transfer students, or new students to the district. (More information will be sent directly to the individuals.)
I hope your family takes time to relax and reenergize for the upcoming semester. Thank you again for a great first semester.
Happy Holiday!

Thinking about a second-semester class change? Similar to our process for first semester, all class change requests must be submitted through the attached Google form.
The deadline to submit a request is 3:00 pm, Friday, January 22. Please note - changes may be suspended or amended in accordance with district planning for COVID safety measures and you may not receive a response to your request until late January, regardless of when it was submitted.
20-21 PCHS Schedule Change Requests (Spring)
Do you have an incoming Freshman for the 21/22 School year?
Tentative: January 26-27: 8th Grade Parent Night 6:30 pm in the Wilson Auditorium at Platte County High School.
This will be an event for eighth-grade parents only - students will not be allowed to attend due to social distancing guidelines. It will be an opportunity for parents to receive information from high school counselors. To meet COVID safety expectations on attendance, a link will be sent out closer to the date to accept attendance that allows us to stay within guideline limits. Plans are to have the event live-streamed as well for students and parents who aren't able to or choose not to attend in person.
All plans for this event are tentative pending COVID safety guidelines.

Winter Weather Information
Cancellation/Notification
In the event of school cancellation, PCR-3 will get that information out as early as possible through automated phone calls and text messages, the District website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the District Hotline (816-858-2752), and local media. If snow, ice, or extreme cold make conditions unsafe, we will cancel school and now have options to 1) make those days up per our academic calendar, or 2) implement our Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days or AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction). Click here for details on our Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days.
Have You Opted in to Receive Texts?
The District uses text messaging and automated phone calls to notify parents and staff of upcoming events and days off, school closings due to weather, and during emergency situations.
If you haven't yet opted in to receive texts and wish to do so, please text the word "YES" to 67587 (standard text messaging fees apply).
