5th Grade - A Review of a Week of Learning!
Language Arts - This was our first week using our Wonders reading series. As all the elementary teachers are still learning the curriculum, I focused on the reading portion of it. We read three stories from the text as a class, as well as split up into small groups for reading groups. There were writing assignments that should be in this week's Friday folder.
This week, we discussed savings, investing, and compound interest. Ask your student about these concepts!
Social Studies - Students took a pretest about our knowledge about the Constitution and our government. We proceeded to talk about the importance of rules in society as well as the meaning and importance of the preamble of the constitution. We split up the different parts of the preamble and discussed its effect on the United States today!
We also discussed 9/11 and its legacy on the United States today.
6th Grade - A Review of a Week of Learning!
Language Arts - This was our first week using our Wonders reading series. As all the elementary teachers are still learning the curriculum, I focused on the reading portion of it. We read three stories from the text as a class, as well as split up into small groups for reading groups. There were writing assignments that should be in this week's Friday folder.
The focus of the week's lessons was about how new experiences can change your perspectives, making you into a better person.
Social Studies - Students starting thinking geographically, discussing what kinds of questions a geographer asks to figure out a mystery in the world. We started to discuss how we can view Mackinac Island through a geographer's view of the world. Each student picked a building or attraction that Mackinac needs. We will investigate this further next week.
We also discussed 9/11 and its legacy on the United States today.
