The Senior Shout Out - Team 2022
January 2021
"Logan Trout" - Team 2022 - In Our Hearts Forever
Welcome Parents/Guardians
Happy Friday! We hope you've had a good start to your New Year! It has been so exciting to see our Seniors back in the building as they eye their final stretch toward graduation. It is definitely bittersweet.
Upcoming Dates:
1/17 - MLK day - No SchoolNew COVID-19 guidelines as of semester 2
BCSC has received new guidance from the CDC with regard to COVID-19 quarantines for positive cases and close contacts. You can visit https://www.brownsburg.k12.in.us/covid-update to track weekly case counts or read the updates.
POSITIVE CASES:
- If your student has symptoms of COVID-19 or is awaiting test results for COVID-19, they should not attend school.
- If your student tests positive for COVID-19, they must stay home for 5 days from the date that symptoms began. On the 6th day, if symptoms are resolving (with no fever-reducing medication) they can return to school. They should wear a mask for 5 days when they return per CDC recommendations.
QUARANTINES:
- If your student is in close contact with a positive case of COVID-19 at school, you will be contacted as soon as possible.
- If your student is a close contact and is vaccinated (2 weeks have passed since their second dose) they will NOT have to quarantine. The CDC recommends that they should wear a mask for 10 days from the date of exposure.
- If your student is a close contact and is NOT vaccinated, they will quarantine for 5 days from the date of exposure and should be monitored for symptoms. They can return on the 6th day if they have no symptoms. They should wear a mask for 5 days when they return per CDC recommendations.
SCHOOL BUSES:
- All students are still required to wear a mask on the bus in accordance with a federal mandate.
3 Areas of Focus to help maximize instructional time and improve the learning environment
Tardies – If students are not in their classroom before the bell rings, they will be marked tardy. Only a pass or email from a staff member will excuse their tardy.
These are the consequences for tardies. 4th tardy = detention (30 minutes), 6th tardy = Tier 1 Friday school (1 ½ hours), 8th tardy = Tier 2 Friday school (3 hours), 10+ tardies = ISS
Seniors with 10 or more tardies or absences may lose their privilege to attend prom.
Phones and Ear Buds – Teachers have classroom policies and students are not allowed to use their phones and/or ear buds without the permission of the teacher. Teacher directives in regards to phones should be followed by students or consequences will occur. Consequences can include confiscating a student’s phone. Failure to comply will result in an immediate consequence. Any necessary emergency communication should be brought to the attention of the teacher by the student prior to phone communication.
Missing work – Teachers will put in a zero for missing work regardless of if students were absent or not. If a student was not absent, then the student will lose credit each day until they have earned a zero. If a student was absent, they will have the same number of days to get their work turned in for full credit as the days they were absent. If the number of days go by, then students should be penalized for turning assignments in late. Any time a student is absent from school, it is fully expected the student will keep up with their classes by doing their daily work through Schoology.

On Thursday, February 17th, BHS will be hosting another FAFSA Night
On Thursday, February 17th, BHS will be hosting another FAFSA Night in which financial aid experts from INvestEd will be here to assist families in filing the 2022-2023 FAFSA. Families may come in anytime between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. for assistance. It will take place in the Senior Academy Cafeteria and entrance is through Door 12 of the Senior Academy.
The 2022-2023 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is available online at www.fafsa.gov . Completing the FAFSA is the most important step in the financial aid process and determines eligibility for both state of Indiana and federal aid. The FAFSA requires your 2020 tax return and April 15, 2022 is the state deadline to file the FAFSA. However, many colleges/universities have their own FAFSA filing deadline dates. It is important to check financial aid websites of colleges/universities to ensure their FAFSA deadline is met.
For a FAFSA Checklist and guide for creating your FSA ID (Federal Student Aid), visit www.investedindiana.org/fafsa .

Naviance Test Prep
We have SAT Test Prep available in Naviance. The Naviance SAT Test Prep can be found on the home page of Naviance under “Resources to Get Ready.” We highly encourage students to take advantage of the SAT prep tool to prepare themselves for the SAT. A prep guide is available in Naviance in the section labeled “From My School.” Also visit the SAT and ACT websites at www.collegeboard.org and www.act.org for additional test prep resources available.
ACT/SAT
This is a reminder to get your student signed up for the ACT and/or the SAT this school year. Students can sign up for the ACT at act.org and the SAT at collegeboard.org. Due to some colleges requiring a writing score, we encourage students to take the writing portion of the ACT/SAT the first time they take the test. Please reach out to the counselors if you have any questions.
