Happy November! As we eagerly await the Thanksgiving holiday there is one more item to add to your checklist: Parent/Teacher Conferences. Conferences are happening on 11/22 and 11/23. For grades 4th-5th teachers are sending out available time slots through Sign Up Genius.
For grades 6th-8th they will have an open house drop in style format on on Monday 11/22 from 8:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:00. They can schedule zoom conferences via Sign Up Genius from 5:00-8:00. Links for these conferences were sent home earlier this week.
Progress reports have also been sent home. Remember this is where your students currently stand in their classes after the first 3 months of school. Progress reports are a precursor to report cards which will be sent home in February. Please use these reports to address specific questions with your student's teacher(s) during conferences.
The Book Fair is Coming
This event is happening in the YCIS library from December 1st through December 10th (please see flyer below). Now is the time to stock up on books and other educational resources just in time for the holidays. Please email our librarian Mrs. Peterson at Petersonk@ycschools.org for further details and questions.
Author Visit
We have a unique opportunity coming to YCIS on December 16th. Young adult author Jason Reynolds will be conducting a zoom session exclusively with our school. YCIS was one of 7 schools chosen out of 200 for this event. Please see previous email sent home regarding the content of his book "Look Both Ways". Because we have such a wide range of ages in our building each grade level will be researching, reading and studying this author in an age appropriate manner. Please consult with your student's teacher if you have additional questions.
Let's give a big shout out to our Band/Orchestra teacher Jeff Hornick and our Theater teacher Stephanie Belt-Verhoef on their fall performances. The music concert showcased what our students have been practicing and rehearsing since the start of school. The "Snow White Variety Show" was well attended, well performed and well received. Kudos to our teachers and performers!
There is a lot to be thankful for this year. I am grateful for the opportunity to have students in our building, in our classrooms and in our hallways once again. We still have some challenges to overcome and some learning to make up but we are grateful as a school and staff to have that opportunity to teach in person. For that I am thankful.
Sincerely,
Matt Wiles
