Message from Mrs. Yost
Wow, how is it already December! As we embrace the festive spirit and the joy that December brings, we are excited to share some exciting updates and upcoming events with all of you. As we enter into the colder months, we ask your assistance with ensuring your child(ren) is prepared for outdoor recess. It is important that our Cougars come to school with hats, gloves, scarves and a winter coat. Students participate in outside for recess when the temperature is above 32 degrees (including the wind chill factor). Please label your child's belongings, in case items get left behind.
Report cards will be ready for parent viewing on Thursday, December 7th through your PowerSchool's Parent Portal. Feel free to call the main office if you require assistance - 203.284.5400. Paper copies will not be distributed.
Just a reminder to keep home toys home. We are still receiving reports that toys are becoming an issue on the bus and now surfacing in the classroom. Please remind your child to keep their toys at home. We are not responsible for lost, broken or stolen items. There are plenty of games and activities in the classroom during indoor recess. Thank you in advance for your support in this matter.
As we approach this festive season, I would like to extend warm wishes and thanks to the Cook Hill School community. This is a wonderful time of year to recognize and appreciate our differences. These differences make our communities rich with character and appreciation for each other's cultures. Wishing you all a memorable December as you surround yourselves with family and friends during this holiday season.
As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Cook Hill K-Kids are hosting a PJ DAY for the Kids this Friday, December 8th to benefit children undergoing cancer treatment at Connecticut Children's Medical Center. PJ Day for the Kids kicks off its 12th year with a mission to not only raise money, but to honor the brave kids fighting cancer at Connecticut Children’s. Join us as students and businesses across Connecticut and Massachusetts wear their PJs for the kids. Since 2011, hundreds-of-thousands of children in Connecticut and Massachusetts have worn their PJs to school and, simultaneously, have raised more than $2.7 million in support of kids at Connecticut Children’s. Each year, PJ Day has inspired more and more schools and businesses across the state of Connecticut to participate.
Students are encouraged to donate a $1 to wear their PJs to school and support these children. If you would like to make an online donate, please see the link above created for Cook Hill School. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Grade 1 Holiday Concert
We are excited to host our first in-person Holiday Concert post 2020 under the directorship of Mrs. Lisa Ives. Due to the size of our school, we can only accommodate one grade level at a time for a concert. Grade 1 parents are invited to our Holiday Concert on December 20th @ 2pm entering through the doors near the gym. Mrs. Ives and your children have been working diligently learning songs and gestures to bring you a musical holiday delight. Cook Hill Grade 1 students will perform this concert to the Masonicare residents on December 19, 2023. Permission slips need to be complete to participate.

Look for the Good Project - Gratitude Campaign
In an effort to uplift our school community, our school participated in a two-week Look for the Good Campaign through the Look for the Good Project. The purpose of the campaign is to help us all connect on something simple, and to encourage students to improve their connections with the people who matter to them.
"Gratitude Spots" are placed in hallways throughout the school to remind students and staff to think about one thing they are thankful/ grateful for. When you step on one, think about what you are thankful for and share with those around you. Each morning, students wrote their gratitude on sticky notes to create a beautiful "Gratitude Wall" of notes which is displayed outside the library.
In addition, you may have found your child talking about an orange "Kindness Card." Students and staff shared these kindness cards when they experienced kindness from another person. The purpose of circulating these cards was to remind students and staff to see the good around them and to share their appreciation and kindness with each other!
Finally, students wrote "You Matter" letters to someone special to them - a friend, teacher, classmate, neighbor, family member, etc. They were encouraged to read the letter to that special sunshine person. We hope your child shared what they learned during the 10 days that we ran the campaign.
We will continue to weave these core beliefs into our school activities, messages and events to support our mission - Cook Hill students will gain a strong foundation on their journey to becoming motivated, compassionate participants in their communities
Help us continue to find the GOOD in our community.
