Background to Mephibosheth and David encounter
2nd Samuel 9 is where David and Mephibosheth Meet.
- He is the son of Jonathan, who was a loyal friend to David against his Father Saul's will.
- David made a Promise and honored it when he found Mephibosheth.
Life was Hard for Mephibosheth!
He was dealing with a lot that was out of his control. Life threw him every mishap possible. He was doomed, in the eyes of man, to have a horribly rough life. His Grandfather Saul and his dad was killed when he was 5 years old.
Everything that could go wrong went wrong!
Even the good intentions went wrong for Mephibosheth. He couldn't catch a break.
A nurse tried to save him and took him and fled and in the midst, dropped him and broke both his feet. He became lame: in the land of LO DEBAR land of nothing.
Man can write you off and cause you to believe there is no hope for you!
Believe inspire of what it looks like! Trust Gods plan. He sees beyond man, He makes much out of where man sees nothing.
- Mephibosheth really believed based on the card that was dealt to him that HE WAS NOTHING.
- Then when David came to where he was, he asked who survived and Ziba spoke up and said yes someone indeed did, BUT he was a nobody.
- Mephibosheth suffered with low self esteem as it says in v. 8 He struggled with receiving the redemption David offered. When you been low so long you can’t even accept good when its in your face. (warning)
The Lord will elevate you infant of those who wrote you off and position you over them
- In the face of Ziba who discounted him, and did not know who Mephibosheth really was, the Lord made his haters his servant. David turned to Ziba in verses 9 and 10 and said all that was Saul now belongs to Him and you and your sons will cultivate the land, that was once known to be nothing, to BE what is needed FOR Mephibosheth.
- They now had to serve the one they discounted. Ch. 16 verse 1-4. Ziba now referenced as Mephibosheth servant, won’t HE do it!
The promise David made to Jonathan was fulfilled through Mephibosheth the lame one.
