Plum Grove Junior High

Tuesday, September 14, 2021

Dear Plum Grove Families,

We hope this finds all of you well, and we are beginning to see our students becoming more comfortable and adjusted to being back.

There is a TikTok challenge going around right now called "Devious Licks" where students are challenged to do an escalating series of stealing and disruption in schools. Currently, students are stealing random things from schools such as wet floor signs, soap dispensers, and classroom supplies. Over the last several days, Plum Grove students have torn down multiple soap dispensers in the boys bathrooms.

We strongly advise you to discuss this with your student and let them know that we are working with our Student Resource Officer Mr. Mike Soto. If any student is caught stealing or damaging Plum Grove and District #15 property, they will meet with officer Soto, and face appropriate consequences for the infraction; in addition to having the cost of any lost or stolen items. If, for some reason, you find a soap dispenser in your student's room, please notify us as we now have to order more. We will be continuing to address this with students.

There is a second layer to this trend where students are dared to run down the halls and scream random obscenities. When addressed by a teacher in the hallway, the students run faster, often disregarding the teachers, and in some cases, the teachers are met with disrespect. We will be reviewing behavior expectations with all students and would appreciate a discussion at home about not following Tik Tok challenges and following the Charger expectation of being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us handle these behaviors.

In addition, we have our first School Safety Drill scheduled for this Friday,

September 17, 2021. If you do not want your child to participate, please fill

and return this Lockdown Opt-Out.
