Recognizing Excellence
Developing a culture of excellence is a priority in the Clinton School District. When these high levels of achievement and expectations are attained, it's important for us to recognize it.
At last Monday evening's Board of Education meeting, the district recognized Clinton High School students who scored exceptionally well on the ACT (an average score in Missouri is 20.8 out of a possible 36).
Katie Mitchell (32 composite score and 35 in English and Reading), McKenna Mason (30 composite score and 35 in Reading), Kali Lindsay (36 in Math and Reading), Brooke LaFavor (31 composite score), Luke Manning (35 in Reading), Maddy Bremer (30 composite score), Isabelle Roof (30 composite score and 36 in Reading). Not pictured: Bray Ferrin (31 composite score and 36 in Reading)
The district also recognized bus driver, Tammy Cretel. Tammy goes above and beyond on a daily basis as she transports the district's littlest learners. It was noted that, "Tammy cares for the students as if they were her own".
Cardinals with Vision
The CSD is dedicated to Educating, Empowering and Engaging our students to be successful adults after high school.
One of the ways the District prepares students for their next steps is through Career and Technical Education. These programs provide students with the most relevant training and certifications needed to get jobs in their field of study or to continue their education.
Clinton Technical School recently recognized students who have a strong sense of VISION, "having goals, and plans to meet those goals".
Congratulations to the students below who were Students of the Month for January.

District Announces New Head Football Coach
Clinton High School is proud to announce it has selected Kevin LaFavor as its next Head Football Coach. Coach LaFavor will take the helm of the Clinton Cardinals football team and will be a teacher in the Physical Education Department at Clinton High School.
Coach LaFavor has spent the last three seasons at Lincoln High School, the last two as Head Coach. As a Head Coach he has amassed a 27-3 record, including State Runner-Up finishes the last two years. In 2017 LaFavor was an Assistant Coach at Lincoln where the team had a record of 11-1 and lost in the state quarterfinals.
LaFavor also has past coaching experiences in basketball and baseball. Coach LaFavor has two degrees from Southwest Baptist University, a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration. LaFavor was also a part of the Bearcat football team for one season.
Coach LaFavor was a standout student-athlete in high school as a Clinton Cardinal, including being an All-Conference and All-District football player. Kevin was also involved in FFA, FBLA, Basketball and National Honor Society. Kevin has also served as a youth coach for the Clinton Youth Football program in the past.
The Clinton School District and Clinton Community are excited to bring Coach LaFavor back to our community to lead our football program.
Jason Abner, Clinton Activities Director said “We are excited to have Coach LaFavor become a part of our Athletic Department and our Football program. We felt hiring someone with ties to the community and who wants to be here for a long time was an important component of this search process. We found that in Kevin LaFavor.”
Coach LaFavor said “I am excited for the opportunity to become a Clinton Cardinal. I appreciate the opportunity to return to my hometown and help lead our student-athletes down a path for success in the classroom and on the playing field.”
Coach LaFavor’s wife, Emily, is also a Clinton High School graduate. She was involved in Soccer, Softball, FFA, and Skills USA in her time there. She has worked as a registered nurse at Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare in Clinton for the past four years. Their son Maxwell is 2 years old. “We are very excited to be a part of the Clinton School District as well as the Clinton Community. Go Cardinals!”
Littlest Cardinals Appreciate Community's Support
The CSD appreciates the continued support that our students receive from our community.
Re/Max Truman Lake recently presented students at the Clinton Early Childhood Center with a generous check to put towards the cost of daily snacks.
The Ladies Auxiliary also surprised students with school supplies. Students and staff are very thankful for these acts of kindness.

2020-2021 School Year Calendar
The 2020-2021 school year calendar was recently approved by the CSD's Board of Education.
You might notice some changes with next year's calendar. One of those changes is that a new state law mandates schools cannot start more than 14 days before Labor Day. Clinton Schools' first day of school will be August 25th.
Another change for next year will be that Clinton Intermediate School and Henry Elementary School will be lengthening their school days by 10 minutes. Next year, CIS will begin school at 8:05 and Henry at 8:10 (doors at both schools will still open at 7:30). With these additional minutes, all buildings in the district will be attending school the same number of minutes every day.
You can find a printable version of the 20-21 school year calendar at the end of the newsletter.
Calling all CSD Retirees
The Clinton School District would like to "catch-up" with our Cardinal retirees. We invite all district retirees to complete the form at the link below. The form will be used to create a comprehensive list of all of those who have retired from the district.
To help us find all of our retirees, please share this with others who have retired from the Clinton School District.
From the Nurse's Office
It is that time of year when we start seeing more illnesses in our students. We just want to remind our families when students need to stay home.
- Students need to stay home if they have a fever of 100.0 or greater.
- They should not return to school until they are fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
- Students need to stay home if they are having diarrhea and vomiting and should not return until they have had 24 hours of no vomiting or diarrhea
- Sometimes your doctor will recommend your child stay home longer for certain illnesses. Please follow your doctor's advice.
- If your student stays home sick, please call their school office to notify them.
This is a great time to remind students to wash their hands and use hand sanitizer often and to keep their hands away from their eyes, mouth and nose.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's school nurse.
