1st Semester 2019 Newsletter
Happy Holidays from JEMS Library!
As a new year rings around the corner, your librarian would like to thank every single one of you that made the library's first semester of the 2019-2020 school year a wonderful success. Thank you to Mrs. Laura Cortez, Ms. Jeannette Hernandez, the ELA department, and our wonderful students for holding down the fort while I was out on maternity leave. There are truly no words to express how thankful I am to work with such an amazing group of educators and students that have become such an integral part of my journey as a librarian and I consider each and every one of you a part of my family. I may have been out for the better part of the semester, but read on below as I share some of the fun events and programming that the library will be offering in 2020!
2019-2020 BRIGHT Summer Readers
Congratulations to our 2019-2020 JEMS BRIGHT Summer Readers! Thank you, Mr. Monrreal, for leading our campus throughout the event! Our campus winners were recognized at the BRIGHT Summer Reader Ceremony at the Pharr Events Center during the month of September. Congratulations, students!
2019-2020 JEMS Battle of the Books Team
Battle of the Books Competition January 22, 2020 @ Southwest ECHS
Get ready to battle! Students who qualified to be on this year's team must have read the five selected titles chosen by the Region One Battle of the Books committees and AR tested with an 80% average or higher on each title. Our team will be studying and reviewing the books to prepare for our competition! Let's take home the gold, team!

Fine Forgiveness Week, DIY Tree Ornaments, Holiday Bingo!
In the spirit of the holidays, the library will dedicate as Fine Forgiveness Week! Students who have fines for overdue or lost books can get their fines forgiven the week of December 16th - December 20th. Students who visit the library to forgive their fines will be entered to win a holiday treat bag. In addition, join Mrs. Q. in the library on Thursday December 19th & Friday December 20th for a DIY tree ornament session & Holiday Bingo to win some sweet treats. I'll also be kicking off the 2020 New Year Friday, January 10th with a Lunch & Learn sesssion for staff during the lunch periods to learn more about Wakelet, a free online digital tool to help you curate collections and digital content. Feel free to bring your lunch and learn about this awesome tool!
JEMS Library Ambassadors & Clubs
The spring semester is around the corner and our library ambassadors will be helping the library come up with some awesome spring programming. Stay tuned for some awesome library events such as our annual fundraiser, book fair, and seasonal contests.
Support the Library's Fundraiser!
Make sure to swing by the library the week of January 20th - January 24th for some hot cocoa! All contributions will go toward the purchase of student reading incentives. Hot cocoa will be on sale for $1.00!
JEMS Librarian Recognitions & Nominations
I am beyond thankful to have been recognized and nominated for the following awards. I work with an amazing campus and district that understands the importance of libraries and their impact on our communities. I extend my utmost gratitude to every staff member, student, and parent that help me in creating a safe and warm learning environment for our students.
