Lugoff-Elgin High band director Glenn Price will be this year's sole inductee into the South Carolina Music Educators Association's (SCMEA) Hall of Fame. Mr. Price was inducted into the SC Band Directors Association's (SCBDA) Hall of Fame in 2005 and is a past President of both SCMEA and SCBDA. Mr. Price has taught in Kershaw County for the past 43 years in addition to the year he taught in North Carolina.
Stover Middle social studies teacher Sarah Spoto will present a "talk back session" after the showing of The Boys of Birkenau by the Columbia Holocaust Education Commission. The film, which won two Emmys, tells the story of Holocaust survivor Henry Silberstern and his male teen friends during their years in concentration camps; Spoto wrote Silberstern's biography after becoming his close friend and confidant when she worked in NY. The event is free, and the public is invited to attend. (Note: the film contains some graphic images so it is recommended for high school students and older.) KCSD has approved two credit hours for those teachers who attend.

Q and A with Dr. Morgan and Staff
Questions for this column are questions of general interest submitted each month in Superintendent's Cabinet meetings.
Is the requirement for grades to be posted into the grade book within 10 calendar days or school days? The district's expectation is that grades are posted as quickly as possible, but at least within 10 school days. Teachers should consult with their principals if longer than 10 school days is needed in certain cases.
What is the status of getting log in codes for middle school students who want to log into Power School to check their grades? This is being pursued, but unfortunately, several setbacks have been encountered with being able to make this work on the mobile app. The district hopes to have this resolved soon and will start the student log ins with high school students.
What is the district's plan for the growth anticipated in the student population at Jackson? Students living in the new apartments being built behind Rite Aid will attend Jackson. It is projected that many of the families who will move into the new apartments are already attending Jackson. Some of the classroom spaces that are not currently being used for classrooms may have to be re-purposed. Other possible options could include relocating district programs that are housed at Jackson if needed.
