News and Information about LaPerche Elementary-August 2017

New Faces in Smithfield!

Did you hear the exciting news? Smithfield Public Schools hired a new superintendent and assistant superintendent during the summer. You should have received an email from the district sharing some information about each of these dynamic leaders. If you missed any of that information, visit the LaPerche website as the emails are posted on the front.

It is also an electrifying time at LaPerche as we welcome many new educators. This year you will find new teachers and related staff members throughout the building. All LaPerche staff have been busy preparing engaging learning environments and are ready to welcome the students to school!

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 13 from 5:30-7:30 for Open House. Open House is a time to visit your child's class as well as the rest of the building to meet all of the adults who work at LaPerche.

Are you ready for the first day or school? The first week? We are! In order to avoid that first day/first week dismissal confusion, we created an electronic transportation form.

A link to the form was sent to all families last week and so far we have 132 dismissal plans submitted. If you have not submitted your child's dismissal plan, please click on the link below and carefully answer each question and complete each section. We will dismiss your child on the FIRST DAY according to the information you provide on this document.

Please complete A SEPARATE FORM FOR EACH OF YOUR CHILDREN and submit each separately. Thank you for your help ensuring that each student is dismissed properly!!

Bus Tracker App--See your child's bus as it approaches!

Did you know there is a bus tracker app so you can see your child's bus in real time? At the Dorsey house, we used it every morning last year for my daughters who attend Gallagher and Smithfield High School. It is so helpful to see when the bus is arriving especially when the bus stop is out of your sight line from your house.

You can download the Durham bus tracker app to your phone. You can see the bus coming on the app so you know when to walk to the bus stop or when your child will be dropped off in the afternoon. After you download, you will need to make an account on the app and you need to enter your child's student number. Please feel free to email Mrs. Bazinet or me or stop in the office to get your child's student number.

Student Handbook Electronic Link

In Smithfield, the four elementary schools have a common student handbook which answers many questions you may have. Each year we ask families to read and discuss the handbook with their children and then sign the signature page to acknowledge

In an effort to move towards paperless communication (and to save many trees!), we are not going to send home a paper copy of the school handbook. Instead, please visit http://rles.smithfield-ps.org/school-handbook to read the handbook online. Please read and discuss the handbook with your family and then sign the signature page that is coming home in the first-day family folders.

For those of you who are new to LaPerche, every Thursday your youngest child will bring home a family folder. Family folders contain all of the communication from the school, district, and community. Please remove all of the items from the folder and return it to school on Friday. Please do not send anything back to school in the family folder. All communication from home can be sent back via your child's classroom/homework folder. Thank you!!
