Lady Cougars

Girls Basketball:

The 7th grade A and B girls’ basketball teams faced Resaca Middle School last night, Dec. 19th at Resaca. The A team competed in what turned out to be a very close game that came down to the last minute in which the Lady Cougars were able to score just one more basket to keep them on top, 28-25. The Lady Cougar B team also faced a tough Lady Gator squad that kept the score close, 13-10 in favor of the Los Cuates Lady Cougars.


Last night, Dec. 19th, our 8th Grade Lady Cougars welcomed the Lady Gators of Resaca Middle School. Our girls stayed consistent in their effort from the start to have a 29-15 lead at the half. Aggressive defense was key to overcoming the Lady Gators with a final score of 54-31. Leading the way for the Lady Cougars were Caydence Castillo with 16 points and Gabriana Garrido with 15 points. Also contributing for the Lady Cougars were Esmer Fuentes 7 points, Silvia Soto 6 points, Jennica Leal 4 points, Krystina Infante 4 points and Victoria Altamirano 2 points.

Our Lady Cougar B Team was able to take a quick lead in the first quarter and maintain that lead throughout the game. The girls displayed great teamwork and were able to close out the game with a final score of 42-8. Leading the way for the Lady Cougars was Andrea Guevara with 14 points. Also contributing for the Lady Cougars were Alexia Flores 11 points, Annystin Martinez 6 points, DAVIA Castro 5 points, Aylin Martinez 4 points and Viviana Rodriguez 2 points.

Soccer

The Lady Cougar Soccer team faced off against San Benito’s Riverside Middle School on Saturday, Dec. 16th at Leo Aguilar Stadium. The girls played a competitive game that left Riverside scoreless. Scoring the winning goal for the Lady Cougars was Sara Garza. The girls will face Resaca Middle School when we return from Christmas break on January 13th. Game will begin at 9am.

Boys Basketball:

The 7th Grade Boys basketball teams travelled to San Benito to face off against the Riverside Bulldogs on Thursday, Dec. 14th. The A team was able to bring home the win playing a great game against Riverside. It took them a while to settle in to the game going into the half with only a one point lead but our Cougar boys clamped down defensively the second half and came out strong to open up a strong lead outscoring the Bulldogs 17 to 2 in the 3rd quarter. Scoring for the Cougar A team were: Justin Jaramillo with 9 points, Gabriel Soriano 7 points, Angeluz Hernandez 6 points, Ryan Pineda and Lee Martinez with 4 points each. Also adding points were, Hunter Thompson and Joshua Munoz with 2 points apiece. The B team took the floor after the A team and played with great effort. Unfortunately they came up short against the Bulldogs B team with a final score of 22-6. Scoring for the Cougars were: Rafael Gausin, Aaron Garza and Joseph Salazar.

The 8th Grade Cougar Basketball team welcomed the Riverside Bulldogs on Thursday, Dec. 14th. The A team played consistent from the start taking the lead at the half 26-4. Pesky defense and aggressive drives were key to overcoming the Bulldogs with a final score of 55-27. Leading the way for the Cougars were Fernando Romero, Cody Taylor, Matthew Padilla, Darren Ulluela, Alexis Guerra, and Miles McWhorter. The B team was also able to work well overall as a team to seal the win over the Bulldogs, 27-18.


Boys Soccer:

Our boys’ soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday December 16th against San Benito’s Riverside Bulldogs 3 to 1. Our team played well and controlled the tempo of the game the majority of the time but were unable to capitalize on shots on goal missing 3 attempts and one penalty shot. The Cougars were down 1 to 0 going into the second half when Jesus Lizama scored within a minute into the half to even out the score. The goal provided momentum but the team was unable to come back. Next up for the Los Cuates Soccer team will be Resaca Middle School after the Christmas break on January 13th. Game time is set for 10am.
