Fryelands Falcon Flyer

From the Principal
Dear Fryelands Families,
Have you thought about how much time your family spends together in a week? Many studies show that spending quality time together as a family increases communication and the overall well-being of all family members. The following statements may give you ideas on how to increase family time or reaffirm what you are currently doing:
We eat dinner together most nights of the week.
I set limits on the number of activities my kids take part in each day.
We stick to bedtime routines and I spend at least five minutes talking with each child before they go to bed.
We designate certain times as “no TV times.”
We pick one night a week for Family Game Night or Family Activity Night.
I encourage you to have a conversation with your family about these ideas and see which ones you feel your family would benefit from trying out.
Fryelands Reading Challenge runs from April 19th-May 25th
The Paper Bookshelf Needs Books...here’s what you do...
Read a Book
Color in a Book Template
Write the Author & Title
Turn it into Mrs. Capone (in our library)
It will then be put on the shelf for all to see
Receive an entry into a drawing for a BIG prize at the end of May
Every book adds another entry into the drawing for each student
A link to our Parent Input Survey for next school year is posted below and is due Friday, May 14th. If you have specific comments regarding your child’s placement for next year, please fill out the survey. We also have paper copies in the office if you need them. The staff and I value parent input, but please note that we are not able to accommodate your request for a specific teacher. Please do not write a teacher’s name on your input form. Your child’s current teacher, along with our school team, will balance next year’s classes by gender, abilities, behaviors, and many other factors.
I wish I could share more information about what school will look like next fall, but in these changing times, we just don’t have that information yet. Fingers crossed for a “more normal” school year this fall. If you know of neighbors or friends returning to Fryelands from home schooling or other learning places, all families will need to register again if they are not here this year. This is the same process as our incoming kindergarten students.
You may register online by going to:
https://www.monroe.wednet.edu/about/register-for-school.
HIB- Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying
How does bullying differ from other forms of conflict?
Other Conflict/ Fighting
- Between friends/equals/peers
- Spontaneous/occasional
- Accidental/not planned
- No serious, lasting harm
- Equal emotional reaction
- Not for domination/control
- Often a sense of remorse
- May try to solve problem
Bullying
- Not friends/imbalance of power
- Repeated over time
- Intentional
- Physical/emotional harm
- Unequal emotional reaction
- Seeking control/possession
- No remorse-blames target
- No effort to solve problem
Please remember that specifics will vary with each incident
Actions on either side of this chart may result in discipline
Recognize, Refuse, and Report Bullying.
We want to work with families to help students recognize bullying, refuse to accept it happening to them or others, and to report it to adults so that we can help eliminate it from happening. We also know that bystanders play a significant role in stopping bullying or supporting bullying based on their actions, too. If you have questions or concerns regarding harassment, intimidation, or bullying, please contact me at presleyj@monroe.wednet.edu or at 360-804-3400.
Take care,
Jeff Presley

Fryelands Student Newscast
MSD Now Offering Transitional Kindergarten
Beginning in the fall of 2021, Monroe School District will be offering FREE Transitional Kindergarten (preschool) for children who are not currently in an early learning program, are age eligible (must be turning 5 years old between September 1, 2021 - August 31, 2022), and reside within the Monroe School District boundaries.
Our goal is to provide families with the opportunity to ensure their students begin their school careers ready for kindergarten. This program will provide an equitable start for students by offering a high quality early learning experience before they enter the traditional kindergarten classroom. Students will be screened in the late spring and summer and may qualify based on need.
Families interested in having their child participate in the Transitional Kindergarten program should complete an online application. Forms received by June 1, 2021, will receive priority. Learn more here.
Happy Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week!
