Panther families,

I am looking forward to seeing you all at Open House tomorrow night to celebrate all the learning, growth and hard work students and staff have been putting in throughout this school year! Please remember parking is difficult, so if you can park further away and walk, please do!

Parents: please be sure you are packing your student a snack for mid-day. We are getting a lot of students coming in for snacks, and we simply don't have the funding to provide this. Another options is for students to go get breakfast in the multi before school, and save it for recess time.

HELP US GET MORE THAN 10 RESPONSES THIS WEEK!!
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)

PBIS Corner

Parent Education

Our PBIS team just met last week, and I had a coaching call with our PBIS coach on Monday. We went through a process called a Fidelity Implementation Tool to see how well we're implementing PBIS at Penngrove. We used the same tool in in the very beginning of implementation back in August, and scored at 40% implementation (which is really high for a first year PBIS school in the first few months of school!). Upon completion of our May inventory, we have improved to 70%!!! This is virtually unheard of in Year 1! I am SO PROUD of all the work our staff has done to get PBIS up and rolling! Great job #TeamPenn!

🔭 Science Family Fun Night with Kids' Fun Science 🧪

May 17th from 6-7:30 in the multi

Science night includes ten Super Fun hands-on experiments where kids learn by doing.

My Hands-on science encourages the students to DO something – observe, ask questions, touch, smell, experiment. These experiments will allow students to do critical thinking skills that are enhanced during such science activities. Kids can ask the why, how, and what questions. Even better, they can help answer the questions themselves.

A night students will be talking about for a long time.

This is a free event to our community, hosted by the Friends of Penngrove PTA.

Mark your calendars for the End of Year BBQ! Join members of #TeamPenn & the Friends of Penngrove PTA for a night at Penngrove Park- food, music, games & more! Watch for the RSVP in next week's Press

TAKE OUR SAFE STREETS FOR ALL SURVEY! Whether you walk, bike, or drive to school, improving Safe Routes to School makes our streets safer for all road users! This important survey will inform future Safe Routes to School programming and projects (including potential infrastructure improvements such as bike lanes, crosswalks, etc) to facilitate safer transportation. This year, local public works/planning departments in every jurisdiction are working on their Active Transportation Plan updates. An infrastructure project typically needs to be in a Transportation Plan in order for it to be funded. Parent (and school staff) voices are critical for identifying potential projects and priority routes in the vicinity of schools.

Upcoming Event: Parent Workshop & Connection Circles - Monday, May 22nd

Petaluma City Schools has partnered with the Society for Social Health & Well-Being to offer a monthly series of Social-Emotional Health Workshops and Parent Discussion Groups to provide more support, opportunities to grow & connect as parents (with each other) and foster a greater sense of community. Each month we will have a theme to be discussed and professionally facilitated discussion and support on areas such as:

Managing the Screen & Digital Well-being or
Fostering Health Social Connections for Kids (and us parents)
New Communication Tools to engage your kids in ways they want to connect
Addressing Mental and Emotional Health Challenges Head on

We will be joined by a local expert to provide educational material, hands-on practice and then open discussion groups and support circles for parents to share their challenges and their triumphs so we can all learn and grow together.

This month's topic: Overwhelm and Energy Depletion as a Modern Parent

This is a wonderful way for you as a parent to become more emotionally equipped to support your children (and yourselves), feel supported by other PCS parents, and begin to grow a community of parents you can connect with for years to come!
