MTSS Moment

What is Tier II?

Tier II are targeted, group interventions provided to students who have been identified as struggling. Tier II supports are typically implemented in a small group setting, based on similar student needs. Districts usually expect to see 5-15% of students receiving Tier II interventions in addition to core instruction.

Using the MTSS Framework, a collaborative intervention plan is developed, monitored, and documented. Targeted group interventions are more explicit, more intensive, and more supportive than the universal instruction that all students receive at the Tier I level. (Adapted from Branching Minds and Illuminate Education)

Virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences and Spring Open Houses

Please be advised that both Parent-Teacher Conferences and the Spring Open House will be virtual this month. With masking being the only significant change to our COVID guidance from the state, there are a number of reasons why we cannot hold these in person.

Parent-Teacher Conferences - March 25
Teachers will reach out to families if they feel a conference is necessary at this time. Certainly, families are always welcome to reach out to teachers with questions/concerns or a request to discuss the progress of your child.

Spring Open House - March 21, 7pm (UPK-2)
Spring Open House - March 22, 7pm (3-5)

Teachers will share a Zoom link for you to “come in” for Open House from home. They will be able to share grade level information and also show you the classroom and answer questions you might have.

We remain hopeful that sooner, rather than later, we'll be able to begin holding more in-person events. We are keeping close tabs on guidance from NYS and look forward to reinstating some of our favorite school events/traditions.

Thanks for your ongoing flexibility and collaboration as we try to find creative ways to partner with you!

Good News Calls of the Week

Richard Mann Elementary is #GanandaProud to share the "Good News Calls of the Week"! Our Richard Mann Elementary School Principal, Mrs. Lumb, and the students pictured below will be calling home together to share good news about something going on at school this week. This could be for something big or small such as helping a friend, mastering a goal, or doing something to brighten the day for others.

New Temperature for Outdoor Play

We value the importance of outdoor play for our students. With the current 25 degree cut-off our students were missing out on lots of outside recess opportunities. We recently polled some regional elementary schools and found the average cut-off temperature for 16 local schools was 21 degrees.

Therefore, beginning on Monday, February 14, our new temperature cut-off will be 20 degrees. We are hopeful this will give us more days when students can play outside.

Please be remember that outdoor play can only take place when students have appropriate clothing. Please continue to send coats, hats, mittens/gloves, snow pants, and boots with your student daily. Our website has also been updated to reflect this change.
